MY19 has various warning lights Red, Amber and Green to indicate status of the DPF, regen and fluid level. Pages 76,79 and 81 of the drivers hand book refer.

Never had any problem with my old MY16 and so far so good with the new one. As I live in a remote area my shortest journey is 12 miles out and 12 miles back on fast A roads with very little traffic - so it gets hot Thumbs Up

That is good news, but the 2019 cars will have selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to reduce emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx). The regenerative fluid (Urea solution) is to provide NOx reduction on the SCR catalyst. All of that is to provide Euro 6 compliance. It is nothing to do with the DPF, which is there to capture particulate matter (part of the compliance strategy for Euro 5 and 6). The DPF will be upstream of the SCR cat and uses a catalytic coating to provide a regen when the substrate temperature is sufficient. The temperature is raised, in response to increasing backpressure from the soot loading, by hydro-carbon injection. That very grand title means injecting fuel at the bottom of the power stroke of the engine so that it goes up the exhaust and combusts on the front of the DPF substrate. It is some of that fuel, that also finds it`s way past the rings to dilute the lubricating oil. I bet you can`t guess what I do for a living... Wink Cool

The simplest cure is to forget the silly extended drain servicing programme and change the oil and filter at 6,000 miles like we used to 20 years ago. Oh but that would ruin the marketing ploy and give work back to the independent garage sector wouldn`t it?

Australia 2013 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Fuji White

Hi Tony,
Just looked up the online handbook for the 2017 and 2019 RRS and they both say the same ,red for totally full DPF and amber for a failed regen. Ie take it to your dealership. Couldn't see any mention of a green. So I couldn't see any notification of regen in progress or a successfull regen.
Does the written version of the handbook mention a green for a successfull regen?

Hi Barry,

Written version of the UK hand book page 81, fourth down on the left, could be different for other world markets.

On our old MY16 it did get serviced every 6000 miles as that is all it did per year. If I remember correctly service interval was 12 months or 16000 miles whichever came first. Not checked the MY19 service intervals, assume its the same, I have the 5 year service pack and I will only keep it 3 years so not given it much thought. No indies in my area and the nearest JLR dealer is 125 miles away, as for the local garages I wouldn't trust them to oil my garden gate.

Australia 2013 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Fuji White

Hi Tony,
Found it in the online manual for both years. It would be great if all of the info on the dpf was cross referenced in the online version. I have not seen any of the three colours come up on mine, so I must be driving in line with LR's requirements! HaHa. Very Happy
Thanks and regards

I had my MY16 Serviced beginning of November and do 40 mile round trip to work on fast roads. Oil service light has been plummeting at a rate of 2 miles/ mile travelled. Yesterday did a 400 mile round trip, 98% of which was motorway and given the roads were quiet, didn't hang about. Checked the service miles to next oil service before I left which showed 13500. Checked again on completion of journey, showed 13550. Go figure?

Mine has had to be reset twice since it was serviced in August as the miles have been dropping like a stone. Each time it’s had different software updates and LR insist that the oil is fine. Watch this space to see if the second update (only done two days ago), has worked.

I’ll be a little cross if the engine suffers, after they have TWICE checked and said the oil was fine. And by cross I mean ducking furious! Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

For peace of mind I would get the oil independently tested , costs 40quid and tells you a lot more than just oil dilution MY 18 RRS HSE Dynamic ,MY 16 RRS Autobiography now gone & MY 2005 Discovery 3 HSE that I will be buried in !

I've had x2 oil changes paid for under their JLRP00100. Despite their flow chart which if I recall correctly after 2, they should advise you re your driving style, Rolling with laughter I fully expect to have another prior to the warranty expiring.
I love the car, but the longevity of the engine worries me greatly. I'm no tech, but it cannot be good long term. Or am I overly worrying or are regular oil changes initiated by the service menu the answer to any potential damage happening?

Ditto... going in for the second reset in a few weeks time. Let’s see if they fix it MY16, 3.0D HSE Dynamic, Barola Black, TV, Rear Entertainment, Opening Pan Roof, Meridian

Sounds like unscrupulous dealers to me, there is no way a software update can rectify the design issues of the DPF/SCRF being laced in a position where it cannot get sufficient heat to perform a passive regeneration.

Call me a sceptic but the car probably just sits in the dealer’s car park all day until they do a simple reset of the service counter. They then tell you it’s had a software update whilst at the same time charging LR for an oil change.

Make sure you ask what software update reference number is being carried out and check on Topix for its validity. As mentioned above, the only way to satisfy yourself is to take a sample of the oil and have it independently tested. Millers Oils offer a very good service with quick turnaround times

Interesting, did you get the Amber warning before it went to Red?

No Amber before. Think the DPF is related to another issue that stopped the regen process. Noticed a loss in power before the RED DPF. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.
