Result of the service and investigation? A bill for nearly £2k. Gulp.

Suspension fault was traced to failing compressor exhaust valve - a non-serviceable part it seems. So a new compressor was required. Cor, they're expensive these days when they come in LR-marked boxes!
Front discs and pads required (I thought the pads might be so not a big surprise there but the discs didn't look too bad to my eyes) along with rear pads (that was unexpected).
Add the B service and suddenly it all got a bit big bucks.

I'd go for a beer to commiserate with myself if only I could afford it!  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hope my bill at my Indy isn't that bad when I collect my car today. Had the A - service plus belts as car has just turned 7 years old. Only extra I was told of was aux belt pulley noisy and needed replacing.

No, it's at an indie but using genuine parts. They do use aftermarket parts for some stuff but the compressor is genuine so has the LR markup.

Even if it was the same price as a main dealer, I'd still use them in preference to a main dealer. Main dealers are shockingly bad.

Just added up the items on the invoice - the service came to £440 incl the VAT. That's the service items (air filter, cabin filters, fuel filter, oil and filter) and the labour all in.

The compressor alone is 681.33 + VAT so over £800 just for the part. That's LR price for an LR part, sadly. £80 + VAT to fit it. So half of the bill is one that one item.

Also bear in mind that of the total price of 1929.41, £321.57 goes to the Government in the form of VAT.

The kicker is that the vehicle is at that age (95k miles) where stuff starts to need to be done. It's the expensive period that we all know and love - recently had the lower front arms done, for example, and had the inlet manifolds changed after one cracked leading to reduced performance. Belts were done at an earlier service when the vehicle was 7 years old.

Fingers crossed for a quiet period on the "bits needing doing to the RRS" front...  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

ouch indeed, that is a big number.. I am not sure in the UK, but in OZ i have found the
independent specialists can be a bit hit and miss in terms of savings on repair work vs my local
LR dealership, belts and Transmission fluid/pan change were cheaper at the dealers, general
service cheaper at the independent  Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

I don't have the time to do these jobs myself, really. This is my every day drive and I do a lot of miles fro work so I just need it fixed and working ASAP.

A large bill indeed but you’ve got a major part within that bill, plus it’s got to be done not choice. Let’s face it these cars are a love hate affair but we love’em.

Probably like most on here we’d have a go ourselves if we had the time. I don’t, would love to but as I’m getting older I can’t be arsed rolling around the driveway, especially at this time of year

Paid my bill today at the local Indy for the A service and belts plus aux belt idle pulley. All genuine parts and the whole lot came out at £1122 all in with vat which I thought was good value till 9 miles from the garage I got Reduced Performance come up on the dash. In the 3 years I've owned the car I've never had a problem till today.

Our current diagnostics were rather limited with anything newer than 2016MY, so we have invested in the same gear that the dealers are using, to compliment our IID Pro, and Autologic

The worst bills are the ones you aren't expecting! Chuff me though, that compressor cost... Glad I didn't buy the one I looked at with the grumbly compressor, now!

That's what I thought when I started the timing chain and stem seals on the OHs MINI. Four days in, I'm starting to wish I'd paid someone the grand to do it..

Luckily, I have the BMW N62 stem seal tool from AGA (which also cost a grand, way back when) which also works on the MINI so the cams can stay in, or it would have had to be farmed out - the cam installation tool is ... another grand
