Front parking aid inactiveI the

Hi lads
Wonder if anyone can help. Got warning up today saying Front Parking Aid Inactive. Also appears that the rear parking sensors are also not working.
Tried cleaning all sensors then disconnected battery for half hour and reconnected ,also checked fuse was ok.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated to help repair .

Cheers Jock Confused

Need to check the sensors, when one of the front goes faulty, the rears will also stop working.

Best to get fault codes read to identify the faulty sensor.

You can listen to them clicking on and off, but easier with fault codes. Bodsys Brake Bible

Re Parking Sensors

Hi Lads

Have sussed out that it is my Front Drivers Side outer Sensor that is faulty. Having a look at purchasing a sensor and wondered if this sensor is the the one with a Straight plug at the back of the sensor or the one with a right angle plug at the back of the sensor.

Just wanted confirm I was purchasing the proper one before dismantling to change it.

Cheers Jock Confused

Can you please let me know how you got on and where you got the sensors?
My fronts have been disabled because 3 of them have failed (advised by my garage) - and they said they are £78 each + fitting, all up £350 - wondering if I could do it myself. 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.2 s/c with Arden bodykit

Re Parking Sensors

Hi there

I have been looking at the Sensors on ebay around £10 - £15 , there are Instructions on the Forum listing how to remove the main bumper covers to fit new sensors. All great work from very knowledgable guys on this Forum

There are also a couple of videos on Youtube showing how to remove the bumper covers. Although I think I can possibly change my fornt outer one without removing the bumper cover ,by only removing part of the wheel arch liner.

Hope this helps

Re Parking Sensor

Thanks for that info Mikey

I was going to try and go in through the wheel arch liner ,but will now try the Fog Light Hole. What about the sensors on ebay do you know if they are ok and whether its a straight or right angle plug on that said sensor.

Cheers Jock. Thumbs Up

Outer sensors should be angled too, but straight sensors do fit, and work fine

The cheap eBay sensors only detect anything from 0.6-0.7m, as opposed to the 2.5m of the genuine sensors... So far, they seem to be fairly reliable too

Thanks Mikey

So its okay to mix and match with originals. Is there any particular ebay supplier that you recommend for these.

Cheers Jock. Bow down

Guys I saw powerful uk show how to detect the faulty sensor - listen out for a click from each sensor- if no clicking its a duff sensor - have the car running

My front sensors were straight not angled.

Is it true RE the non oem ones have less of a detection range??

To the guy with the Arden kit - is yours fibre glass aprons as if so they may be glued in and require whole bumper off
the price they quoted was ridiculous as sensors even genuine are around £20-£25 each unpainted and its just a bumper off job. Shop around don't get robbed or DIY.

Re Parking Sensor

Cheers for the reply

Managed to remove my sensor last night through the Fog Lamp hole Thumbs Up and its a straight one Valeo part number YDB 500301.
When I was listening for the clicking I had switched the car of in either Forward or Reverse with wheels chocked and then turned ignition back on till dash lit up and could hear the sensors better with no engine noise.

I have bad ears though Laughing

Cheers Jock

Hi Jock, you are right, the pre 2010 cars have the straight sensors which are much larger than the later ones which are right angled. I had problems with my system playing up last year and ended up replacing all of my sensors, the front wiring loom, which was the faulty part, and the parking module. I have 4 of these genuine sensors and the loom, as I have just fitted a new bumper which came complete. I can send you a sensor out and if it fixes your problem you can just send me a tenner, if it doesn't just pop it back in the post. ( Hope this doesn't breach any rules).

Re Parking Aid

Hi Bud

Thanks very much for the offer, I ordered a sensor last night which is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I would have taken you up on your very kind offer if I hadn't already ordered.

But if you don't mind will keep in mind about the loom in case the sensor is not my only problem.

Thanks John Thumbs Up

Hi John, no problem at all mate, hopefully you won't need it but the same offer is there for the loom if you do. I spent £500 getting them all working again just for them to annoy the Censored out of me every morning when I'm leaving my drive!! Smile
