Another ballache.

So, I went to Demon Tweeks for 2 new tyres on the front. First tyre took them an hour to replace...had trouble getting it to seal. They had to use over 9 bar to get it to seal as opposed to 3, which is more normal.

Then they called me over. Locking nut just keeps turning, can`t get it off. I said the wheels weren`t long off as I had service and pads done. They said the garage must have stripped the threads or something!

Went to garage all naggy and he said, there`s a nack to removing them. He explained that over time the 2 pieces swell a bit so the nut won`t fit over without a tap from a hammer to make sure it`s seated all the way on the locker. He showed me the key and you can see where Tweeks have "reshaped" the lugs cos they didn`t have it all the way on!

So now he`s gonna have to try and weld a bolt onto the face of the locking nut or maybe drill it off somehow.

Oh and I`ve asked him to get 5 new normal nuts to replace the old knackered locking ones. £8 a piece from LR Mad Steve.

Hi Steve,

when I had mine serviced recently they said these nuts are balls (wait for the quotes Mr. Green ) and simply replaced the 4 lockers with normal nuts to prevent exactly what your experiencing.

When I tighten the locking nuts I NEVER use the gun,,I only ever run them on with my fingers & just nip them up with bar just in case customer loses locking key I can remove them easily. As for not seating I’ve seen me put 150psifor them to seal but that’s usually with 17-18” low profiles.

While we are on the subject of tyres,,I’ve just spotted this on eBay & zoomed in on the tyres & it has 285/35r22’s fitted with 106 load rating instead of the recommended 108,,just wondering if a customer that doesn’t know much about tyres had a accident & the insurance checked the tyres would the customer be able to sue the dealership for selling a car with wrong load rated tyres.when I got rid of my12 red edition I removed my 22’s & fitted the original alloys,,the 22’s had 106 load rated tyres which were fine on a L320 but when I fitted the wheels to my14 ab I removed the nearly new Pirelli 106’s & fitted 295/40r22’s 112 load rating just in case anything happened
