England 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Fuji White
Focus rolled away

You know when someone says something you dismiss as being Censored ? Well my lad is the best at it and has lots of practice too but when he looks out of the Kitchen window and says ‘someone’s stealing our car’, that’s not the normal Censored he spouts and I think I should check it out. I ran to the back door to find it locked, took an eternity to unlock it and got out to see the car backing off the drive. As I ran to the car it stopped on the neighbours drive over the road but........there was no one in it. To top it off the doors were locked and I could see the handbrake was on. The wife brought me the keys and I unlocked the car. I managed to get two extra clicks on the handbrake ratchet and after some experimenting I found there are 7 clicks from off to on. I put 5 clicks on it and then tried to move the car with the engine. It could just about move, 6 clicks locked it and with 4 I could move it with my foot out of the door. I can only think the heat has caused it to hold initially and then as components have cooled and contracted it’s released (like the Citroen’s a while back). I’ve told my wife to leave it in gear now and she’s emailed Ford with her concerns. Thank goodness no one was walking on the pavement and no cars were damaged. 2012 5.0 SC AB

It’s booked in for a check up on Saturday. It’s only done 4000 miles so I doubt they will find anything wrong. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Maybe a few of the teeth on the ratchet part of the handbrake lever are worn. When you pull it up 5-7 clicks, give it a wiggle, Often it will jump down a tooth and thats enough for it to roll away.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Put a couple of big stones or bricks behind the wheels as a back up, I do that to all my cars when I go to sea, just in case. On one occasion it also delayed a would be thief long enough for plod to catch him red-handed trying to figure out why the car wouldn’t move backwards! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

This is why older Saabs wouldn't let they keys be removed from the ignition unless the gearbox was in reverse. Wink

(parked next to a kerb, there's the old 'angle the wheels' thing).
