Revs fluctuate when going uphill

Hello all,

Can't find if this has been dealt with before so apologise if it has.

I have an 07 TDV8 Sport with 102k on the clock.

I am in Portugal with the car at the moment and since I have been here I have noticed that when going uphill at fairly slow speeds (25-35mph) the rev gauge fluctuates a few hundred revs and the car sounds accordingly. This happens when my foot is holding the accelerator perfectly still.

If I put my foot down it stops and it doesn't do it every single time but its enough to worry me.

Any idea what it could be?
