Hi Guys,

Car came last week on Friday, got it from Grange in Woodford, had really good service there and the sales & service teams both seem much more on point than the other two London dealerships I've used in the past.

Carpathian Grey with black pack, SDV8 with a few toys here and there, really like it!

Two quick questions for people;

- Does the SDV8 in the RRS make a noticeable whine noise from the engine?
- Have any of you got a really high pitched noise coming from the sound system (1700w Signature, it is not convo assist)?

Nice looking motor DM,,I do like carpathian better than black or Corris.My next one will be a sdv8 if I stay with LR.

No whine other than slight turbo when very cold at start. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Are you based near there? I am 5 mins down the road from there and I have a MY16 SDV8
When in Sport/Dyn/Manual I get a very loud whine when I floor it... I also feel theres quite a bit of turbo lag... would be interesting to compare if you are around that way.... I was going to book it in to get them to check it out and also fix my squeaking brakes....

CBL1- thanks for that mate its not deafening but its noticeable, I've been in another L494 SDV8 and not noticed it hence why I asked.

IRBails - thanks mate might be the turbos or something else not sure its noticeable on slowdown as well and dies out just before 1000rpm - never noticed it in an L405 but that might just be different sound deadening for the cabin, not sure.

Guys what are the UK plate sizes for this car?

Front is standard I'm guessing, but back looks a bit larger?

My SDV8 doesnt whine, it has a satisfying roar (not quite petrol V8 territory but not bad)

Another question, in the photo below (from Google) is that rear left side vent supposed to be noticeably stronger than the right side?

Anyone else with the vents in the rear above the seats have you noticed if it is stronger on one side than the other? Or is it a leaky pipe somewhere. Its more noticeable if you have it on MAX rather than a set temperature, left side just blows a lot stronger. Freezes the left rear passenger and the right one gets a lot less.

Hey bro I personally really like it.

Obviously can't say how it will be in an MY19 car with the different gearbox but with the MY18 I prefer the SDV8 to the SDV6 personally. Is it worth the price difference? That's a question I can't answer, entirely subjective I guess. But I like the rumble and the urgency to the engine I will say that.

On the rear air-con thing I found this;




Which is why it will always come out of the rear top right weaker than the left on cars with the four zone system. There's another unit in the back placed on the left and it has to go up and over to the right vent so looks like it will always be stronger on the left side.

On another note was driving home tonight and had what I felt was either something fly out of nowhere and make a noise landing on the roof or the roof made a mini-crack type of noise all on its own, looked when I got home in the dark with my phone and couldn't see any marks or damage, do these glass roofs make their own noises sometimes - or was it more likely that something did land on the roof and just made a loud noise but no visible damage.
