I am on my third RRS and none of them has had any serious issues. Niggles and minor problems, yes, but nothing bad enough to make me hate them. Pleasure to drive and hard to beat in many other departments too. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

England 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Fuji White

I’ve had my fair share of cars and I guess I must be lucky as in 24 years driving I’ve never had a fault that couldn’t be fixed for £250 or less (touch wood). I’ve never even had a puncture and only had one breakdown which fixed itself 2 minutes later and properly died when I got home (cam position sensor loom fatigued).

I love my sport, is it expensive? Fuel and Tax yes, repairs....only had two parts replaced and repaired myself (ARB £250 and rear brake pipes £50). Last Service B was £200 at a Land Rover Indy in Lincoln so can’t complain at that. Cheap 22” tyres are £80 but I’m going to stick with Toyo Proxes at £140. Head turning ability...priceless! 2012 5.0 SC AB

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Rimini Red

I’m on my fourth sport (current is my first L494). I’ve had two v6 and a tdv8 and had no major issues with any of them. Please remember that there are a number of users will find these forums BECAUSE they have problems. This will make it seem like reliability is worse than it is.

Either that or I’m super lucky *touches wood!

Current car has only just been bought and is under warranty so too early to tell, but can’t remember a single issue of significance with the others.

In fact my last major issue was a head gasket on my Range Rover dse back in 1997 Laughing Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

I have a 2005 4.2 SC with 116,000 miles which I've owned for nearly 2 years (109,000 miles when I bought it).

Although it is expensive to run I would say it's been pretty reliable with nothing that had to be done other than a new battery.

One possible advantage of buying an older car is that any issues will hopefully have been fixed by the previous owners so always ask for any paperwork if they claim work has been done.

The things I did get done were expensive but not because of reliability (new BCM at £2,500 because I did something stupid and last service was recommended to have both belts and all spark plugs changed which was £600).

There is also a very slight weep on the transmission seal but not enough to even leave a drop of fluid on the road and that will cost about £1,000 to have done but there is no rush.

I also read the horror stories every day and live with the constant fear of "what if?" in the back of mind but I do love the car. It is the price you pay for owning such a beast. The driving comfort is the best, the cabin sublime, the road presence awesome and the grin on my face huge!

I did look at a few before I bought mine and there was a big difference in condition and care for the same price. I ended up going from London to Newcastle to get one with full service history and extremely well looked after from a trader and I'm glad that I did.

My only advice to you is shop around, don't scratch that itch just because you want to. Take your time and find the right one and hopefully you'll have many years of trouble free driving in a car that you love to drive in!!

Good luck.

It’s a 4.2SC - it only came in one spec unless you bought one of the very early cars when you had the choice of a ‘plain” S/C or a First Edition version that soon sold out. Only other choice came in 2007bwhen you could order an HST with the S/C Motor 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Some upgraded leather, RSE, sunroof -300 were special Vesuvius Orange paint (but they were also available in Zambezi Silver 300 built, or metallic Black also 300 built, for world wide sales ), Stirmer style alloy wheels and a special plaque - there was no extra power or changes to any of the running gear 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

Scrumpy, sounds like yours might be a first Edition then - the leather upgrade IIRC was perforated Leather but as I have the original sales brouchures I can check later and list the additional items on a 1st Ed. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

We’ve had two so far, both owned from new:

- 46,000 miles in a 2012 L320 SDV6 SE

- 24,000 miles, so far, in a 2016 L494 SDV6 HSE

Both cars have been completely reliable and have been perfect for our needs - a mix of local work on country roads and long (300 to 600 mile) motorway journeys, sometimes with a roof box.

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black

I always feel nervous commenting on threads like this because Murphy's Law dictates something will go wrong just after I post stating the opposite.

I had my First Edition SC for 7.5 years and it was a great drive. During that time of course it had some costlier repairs but nothing too excessive or unexpected and I covered around 30,000 miles over the period.

Had the MY18 5.0 SC for six weeks and so far (touch wood!) the only issues have been a missing First Aid Kit, Android mobile not charging in the wireless thing (iPhone works fine) and a little sluggish on the steering controls for the infotainment system.

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Lux Sumatra Black

2 years into my first RRS - TDV8 currently on 155k miles. Was on 120k or so when I bought it. No major problems, a parking sensor and a suspension height sensor, both replaced by myself.

Fabulous car, runs and sounds like a dream. So good that I'm now looking at adding another to the fleet. The RRS is my wife's but I fancy a supercharged 4.2 RRS or FFRR from the 2007-2010 era.

I do wonder about the lifespan of the turbos and egr valves on my TDV8 but I change the oil every 6 months and will be changing the egr's for the hell of it over the next month or so as preventative work.

I also think this era of LR appear to be more reliable than the more modern models but thats just my perception and I might be way off. Doesn't help that my next door neighbour has had a crank failure on his 2017 RRS Shocked

8 years and 120,000km of ownership (car now has 150,000km and is 11 years old) - other than service related items - no issues - still on my original air compressor and only recently changed to my second battery.

Forums are biased to highlighting issues because people come to ask for help when the have problems - if no problems then they dont raise issues.
