Wing Mirror Indicators and DRLs

I have a 07MY RRS TDV6

I have seen a mod with video that installs indicators in the wing mirrors - I have searched on here but cannot find it - any links on where I might find where to buy and how to install.

DRLs - my car does not have any DRLs and I would like to install some. I do not want to use the OSRAM style that go into the fog light position - it will take a bit to convince Mr Plod that I have DRLs on during the day rather than fog lamps which are illegal here to be on unless in low vis.

I would prefer the style of DRLs that are rings that circle each of the light fittings. Years ago I bought a set of rings but they were just vacuum rings with one LED and were quite dull and really a waste so never fitted. I would prefer angle eye/rings that are rings of LEDS that fit around the standard fittings. I would also consider DRLs that might fit elsewhere - other options other than the OSRAM style would be considered.

Thanks

DRL's that go in the fog lights are usually a ring, so its obvious its a DRL not fog.

Thanks for the link - So you basically built a kit from scratch - I take it that you did not find a kit to do what you built?

I wanted to add additional functionality to mine (dimming independently with the indicators), but you can buy DRL controllers easily enough that simply dim with the headlights. The rings in that link are nice and bright and true LED’s so will last well, however you do need a level of competence to fit them.

The headlight needs the lense edges heated so that the seal softens allowing it to come away from the unit. From there you can use epoxy to glue the rings in place, then I added a controller to each headlight unit (so there were no additional wires outside each headlight) and splice into the existing headlight loom. However as you’ve got the tdv6 you may not have an ignition live to the headlights, you need to have the adaptive headlights for that, if you don’t have adaptive headlights you’ll need to run an ignition live from elsewhere.

Thanks - great information. I am not after anything other than simple DRLs - when engine is running with lights off the DRLs are on and when headlights are on then the DRLS are off.

Be aware that if you use a DRL controller that uses a voltage sensing relay to switch on the DRL lamps then when you plug a battery charger in the DRL lamps will light up when the voltage at the battery terminals exceeds just over 13 volts.
