Options for fitting the likes of Apple Carplay?

Hi guys,

Decided to keep the RR (2010 facelift TDV8 Sport) as it's handy for longer journeys and carrying stuff which the BMW just isn't.

Only thing bugging me on these long journeys which was meaning I was tending not to use it is the outdated sat nav maps, fiddly switching between DAB stations and making phone calls etc.

The BMW has lots of shortcut buttons, i-Drive is great, just a lot more relaxing.

What I was hoping is that there is an option of replacing the existing screen with something like an Android set up or Apple Car Play but retaining the likes of reverse camera, HK audio etc.

Apologies if this has been asked before, I have seen that you can swap lower headunit in some RR but ideally I'd like something to replace the existing screen to retain OEM look.

As an example, this is available for BMW...

Installing Apple CarPlay is on our list of tweaks - one of the forum sponsors (incartec.co.uk) has adaptor kits (fascia and wiring harnesses) here is the link: https://incartec.co.uk/Landrover/Range-Rover-Sport/

I bought the upgrade/wiring harness kit from InCarTec to keep the sat nav screen and steering wheel controls and although you lose the centre speaker and need an additional amp the kit is superb and worked first time.
The guys at InCarTec are really helpful and friendly and even supplied extra cables for me FOC. Give them a call and talk through what you are looking to do and they will walk you through what's needed.

It was a bit of a mission fitting it all as you also need to disassemble the old head unit and retain a small part for the clock function, all the instructions were clear and easy enough to do.

I now have Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, DAB and keep the old sat nav screen. The double DIN head unit and surround also looks much more modern in my 2005 SC.

Hope that helps 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

Scrumpy, do you have a photo of your set up please. As your is the prefacelift I’m assuming you remove the lower stereo and keep the original screen. In the facelift versions there is not the option to do this. If anyone has managed it in a facelift RR please post details or photos.

Hi Bustanut,
Here is the link to the post I put up.
Yes you're right, mine is pre-facelift and I kept the original sat nav screen but removed all of the old head unit.

Hope it helps but let me know if you need anything else.

Hi AlphaBravo,

I installed an 8.8" Android unit into my 2006 RRS, have a look here.

I'd assume something similar could be done in the later 2010 RRS'. If you do go the Android route, make sure you get a head unit with at least 2GB RAM for smooth operation.

Cheers

Morning Alpha.

I believe the simplest route would be to fit a parrot kit and a link lead from our forum sponsors. This gives us Bluetooth music and better hands free over the existing system.

Will be installing this myself in the coming weeks as driving up to and around Scotland the radio gets very boring..

When you install these new head units do you still have access to all the aspect of the car i.e 4x4 display screen, diagnostics, TV?

I have the same vehicle as the OP. And looking to do exactly the same also. The question is, as already asked, do these after market products still allow the use of all the existing cameras and diagnosis screen? Please.
