New wheel nuts

Hi guys. New member and new sport owner. Well not brand new. Lol
Just got myself new set of wheel nuts and when putting them on I would always put little bit of copper grease on prior to fitting. Out of curiosity I checked YouTube and one video says put some on another says dont😬
So I thought id check with the experts first.
Thank you

Hiya and welcome. What was the reason not to use copper grease? Steve.

Hi Steve.
I searched fo RRS wheel nuts but as YouTube goes you get loads of other links. The one I opened was a guy showing you how to torque a Mercedes which has the five stud fitment. He then surprisingly said not to put grease on as he been in a car which wheels nearly came off!!!
So I’m assuming he blamed the grease as opposed to not being tightened correctly!

The torque loading on wheel nuts is quoted dry, so 140NM in the manual is for dry nuts. You can copper slip between brake hub and wheel a little to stop the wheel corroding with the steel but I never put it on threads. 2012 5.0 SC AB

I have been doing it for more years than I care to remember and just torqued them up to the recommended torque, on cars, vans, trucks and heavy construction plant and have never had a nut/wheel come loose or seized on, you only need to use a small dab of it.

Cheers
Col
