United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black
Guess the quote!

Sent the RR in for a knocking noise and MOT yesterday and have just had the inspection video back, awaiting a call for the cost. So where do we reckon it will be?

Front roll bar bushes and lower wishbone bushes need replacing.

Rear pads need changing.

Rear roll bar bushes need replacing.

Rear break pipes starting to corrode.

Rear roll bar motor leaking oil.

Assuming they want to replace the rear anti roll bar as part of the work, then a main dealer is going to want at least £3k for that little lot.

Lower arm bushes - they'll change the arms and charge maybe £800

Front ARB bushes - £200+

Rear pads - £100+

Rear ARB bushes - changed with the bar, otherwise £200+. Wouldn't put it past a main dealer to try to charge replacement as an item...

Rear brake pipes - no idea but I bet it'll be £1k

Rear ARB - £1500+

However, if it passed the MOT, then anything else is just a "need to do at some point". Knocking noises on RRS on not unusual and the starter is the front ARB bushes. They're not too expensive to change so it can get you a result without a big outlay.

If the rear ARB is leaking, then it'll need doing at some point. If it's just the connections then you can just sort those without changing the whole bar. If it's the ram that's leaking, it's a replacement job. However, you can just keep the reservoir topped up and it'll work fine. You'll end up with an oil-spotted tailgate, mind. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Email has just hit me...not nice! All inclusive of fitting.

Front roll bar bushes and lower wishbone bushes need replacing. - £1046 for the arms and £271 for the bushes.

Rear pads need changing. - £242

Rear roll bar bushes need replacing.

Rear break pipes starting to corrode. - only an advisory, will check next service.

Rear roll bar motor leaking oil. - replacement of ARC bar £1946.

It's the replacement of the bar that is getting me - If I keep it topped up and just replace the bushes is it going to be a major thing?

Technically, its an MOT fail...

And you could easily knock off best part of £1k by not going to a main dealer Whistle

Censored . This health check has happened pre MOT, so just getting the rear bar bushes done isn't going to make it pass?

They're now saying due to the age of the vehicle you can't get rear bushes only, needs to be the whole bar... walk away time?

I`ve just had front lower wishbones replaced...£320 all in.

If I`d had that report...I`d sell it. Mine will be going in a few months as I`m fed up throwing good money after bad. Steve.

Has crossed my mind. Anyone know a good independent around Bristol?

If it's leaking then changing the bushes won't help, of course, but I don't believe them when they say the bushes are unavailable. Sounds like total BS to me.

Edit: Advanced Factors show rear ARB bushes (with ACE a.k.a. dynamic response as fitted to your TDV8) for less than a tenner a pair. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The lower front arms are £150 each from Advanced Factors, the front ARB bushes are £16 a pair from the same place. Bolts are a few quid each as necessary.

Brake pads at a main dealer is always silly money.

Rear ARB - The bars are well over a grand each so this is not unexpected. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

And if the buyer asks "any problems you're aware of" then the price just comes down by the amount quoted for the job anyway. Say "no, mate" when you know otherwise (and they find out soon enough) and you're guilty of a crime. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

With that sort of bill and the potential savings, it'd be worth travelling a bit. You could pop along the M4 to Reading and try Rovertune - call them first and discuss the job / prices. Not used them myself but they've been recommended hereabouts before. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Shocked £50 max for parts. (i'm sure you could get for half that price)
and if it took an hours labour I would be surprised. £100

£150 tops

I wouldn't be rushing to replace the rear ARC bar if its a minor leak. (if it was a bad leak you would have a red suspension light on the dash). They all go at some point so no rush to replace unless the seals can be done to reduce cost or you are planning a road trip within a month or two
