I WAS DRIVING AND THE RANGE ROVER LOST ALL POWER AND A CLUNKING GRINDING NOISE CAME FROM UNDERNEATH GEAR BOX AREA (I THINK) I SLOWED FROM 50MPH TO 10MPH THEN THE CAR STOPPED ITS SELF ABRUPTLY. I PULLED OVER AND A BIT OF A BURNING SMELL AND SMOKE CAME FROM PASSANGER SIDE OF BONNET . YHE POQER LOSS WAS FROM TRANSMITION FAULT SOME WHERE AS THE CAR STARTS UP AND TEVS FINE, NOW WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR 1-2 MPH IT IS CLUNKING / BANGING UNDERNEATH I THE GEAR BOX/ TRANSFER BOX / DIFF AREA.
ANY IDEAS? THANKS

With those noises I would not be starting the car at all.
Two options take out a bank loan or scrap the car.

I haven't looked under the vehicle in depth just yet but there was smoke from under the bonnet could the prop cause this? There was no skidding to cause smoke by the way. Prop was my first thought by the way. Regards

Didn't think of that. I will have a look in the morning. Are the drive shafts prone for going on rrs?
