Towbar - how easy to remove?

Hi all

On the tentative lookout for a S/C L494 2013/2014 and have come across one I like the look of but it has a towbar attached to it.

I was going to call the company selling the vehicle but they may not have clue as not JLR; how easy is it to remove? And once removed what is needed to cover the hole, a whole new lower backplate or just a cover that fits the gap?

Cheers

If you decide to sell the towbar let me know as I'm after one for my L494 SC.

Ha, need to buy the motor first before I can sell the towbar!

But yes, if it materialises then you have first dibs.

You replace it with the Crash bar. I have an extra one Plus all the parts you'll need once you're done Smile cause I actually went the other way around. You'll also need the rear plastic cover which is different. I'm in US so shipping would cost you a bit cause the crash bar weighs about 50 lbs, maybe more.

It is NOT easy btw. Removing the rear bumper and reinstalling it is not for every day hobbyist. I managed to break one of the hooks in my bumper which sucks. I had to glue it back on. Search Topix for the towbar assembly and just do the reverse. At the very least, the rear tail lights, the bumper and all the surrounds have to be removed first. Then you'll have to remove the entire tow assembly. Installing the crash bar is pretty simple after that.

^^^

Thanks for the info, I can see it isn't a job for a dabbler like me!

I did also email the dealership and to my surprise the chap responded quickly stating they can remove the towbar and put back the relevant trim so maybe the previous owner was in a similar boat to yourself?

Thanks again Thumbs Up

Just curious, what do you have against the towbar? I would love to have one on my SVR but alas not willing to go through the hoops ... but if I had one I certainly wouldn't delete it. It doesn't really add much weight over the crash bar and it's pretty well tucked away. Also, would likely help you with resale rather than hurt ...

A few reasons really. Firstly I don't have a need for it at all, secondly it breaks up the clean lines at the back of the RRS and thirdly (to me anyway) just looks a little odd sticking out like that.

@riverblanche - This is the description sent to me of it so make of that what you will:

"It is fixed single electric although the towing attachment can be removed."

It could be like this then

locked in with a key, easy to remove the bar part, remove one of the 2 bolts that holds the electrics plug bracket, pivot it a smidge and the original plastic centre cover panel can be put back in place, it has 2 1/4 turn clips

remove it all at your leisure later Thumbs Up Porsche Cayenne 2022

Would be fantastic if it is as even a dabbler like me could do that Smile

This is a pic of it though so not sure but either way if I end up going for it they have promised to remove and blank:
