What a beauty - I had every confidence as mine had an MOT last week and sailed through without any problems. I had just had two new rear shocks fitted the week before though.... Shocked Robin

Shocks fitted inside the airbags? I assumed they came as a complete unit. Did they make much difference?

I dread the MOT too, you just never know what will be thrown up.

Last month was mine and it wasn't too bad; crack in one alloy, power steering universal joint, 2 bulbs and seat belt tension not correct on front passenger seat - latter 2 were simple fixes and former two not stupidly expensive.

Some advisories but none of them serious so not going to lose sleep over them!

They made a significant difference! I hadn't noticed as it was a gradual reduction in performance but the offside one was pretty bad. I had noticed that when breaking from high speed on say leaving a motorway, there seemed to be a bit of a twitch through the steering. It was not obvious what was causing it or even if it was actually there at all. I put it down to uneven road surface. However, with the new shocks on the problem has gone away and the car feels much steadier.

If you want to check yours, what I did was open the tailgate and get into the boot then bounce on the rear end. The car should go down, up and then return to the start position. If it oscillates more than that (i.e. bounces up and down twice or more) then you should get your shocks properly checked. The difference is considerable and now looking back I feel that the car was quite dangerous in it pre-fixed condition. Robin

Thanks Eaters, thats useful advice. I usually regard dampers as a service item and find they need replacing at about 120k. Can you replace just the damper, or do you have to replace the whole strut with the airbag like these:

You can replace the damper or the whole strut. Whole strut needs to come out to change the damper and then there's the time to swap the dampers out. The whole strut isn't much more than the damper alone so probably little in it on cost. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Not sure but my invoice only talks about rear dampers (part number LR016420 if that helps). Cost was £350 plus labour. Robin
