Handbrake effort

I've just replaced my handbrake shoes, done the bedding in procedure, but not sure if it's set right.

How hard should he car lurch when pulling away with the handbrake on?

Previously, you definitely knew the brake was on, with a bit of a lurch before it had taken the brake off. Now it's very smooth, like you don't know it's there. Was it set wrong before, or do I need to tighten it up?

My TDV8 was always smooth when driving off the handbrake. The times it was jerky usually presaged an adjustment being required (or a repair, in a couple of cases).

These days I usually use the button to disengage EPB before pulling away. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks RRSTDV8, it looks like the garage was a bit excitable when they adjusted it up previously. I'll go park on a hill and check that it holds the car.

I usually take it off manually because it feels like I'm punishing the car driving off with the brake on, but its mostly a measure of wether I've adjusted it correctly.
