Engine hiccup then dies

I am currently waiting to be recovered.

TDV6 engine idles, then hiccups, idles hiccups above 6 tp 10 times then stalls. Would this be an air flow meter issue?

I currently have the 'missing fuel reading' issue. This won't Contribute to it, will it? 2010 3.0 TDV6 RRS Overfinch GTS

Do you mean that the fuel gauge is mis-reading?
From when I had this problem, mine ran out of fuel when showing 1/3 full, but I also understand that it will think it's empty when there is fuel in there at which point it goes into a protocol to shut the engine down, so Censored in both cases.
In fairness, mine did give me a warning several months before which I ignored as a momentary glitch lasting a couple of seconds.

I would think fueling.

In tank pump.

There is also a pump that is belt driven at rear of engine

It is not out of fuel, as it was full before I set off and only covered 197 miles.

The car seems to have the fuel gauge sender wire corrosion issue. LR said the car is not intelligent enough to go into limp mode just because the warning light for fuel is lit.

It maybe a loose vacuum hose as it is not going into restricted mode. 2010 3.0 TDV6 RRS Overfinch GTS

these cars will idle with the hoses off.

If these cars run out of fuel, you do have to add several litres to keep the ecu happy and start the car.

So they are more cleaver than the AA guy

The car has not run out of fuel. I get over 400 miles to a tank and was full when I set off this morning. The issue happened at under 200 miles into my journey.

Does your gauge read empty, even though you know there is fuel in the tank?
If so you probably have the well known wiring fault in the fuel content sender.

It was a TSB fix paid for by LR, but if you don't have a full main dealer history they probably won’t pay.

As you say you need diagnostics and a LR specialist - where are you?

I have contacted JLR Customer services and they advised it is not a recall issue to fix the corroded wires. The car has 2 independent services, so probably won’t cover, but can’t see why as this issue is not service related. 2010 3.0 TDV6 RRS Overfinch GTS

In March 2014, the car car was under a LR Approved Used Warranty but the repair was paid for by LR as it was a known design fault and covered under a Technical Service Bulletin.

Hi fella, I got the 2007 tdv8 hse and had a problem with occasional cut out and into limp mode. Turn it off and restart and no problem til next time. Mine turned out to be the fuel filter but when in local dealership they told me to watch fuel gauge next time it cuts out and see if it drops to empty. Mine different because it was only filter but apparently it’s a good way of telling if it’s the sender or wiring to it in the tank because as others have said on this post. The car shuts down if it thinks it’s out of fuel. Hope this helps but sounds to be where you should be looking.im sure a plug in would tell you if there’s a fuel pressure or MAF sensor issue??. Incidentally, my Delphi set up acknowledged a fuel pressure fault but said I had high pressures when in fact fuel filter blocked was a low pressure issue. More specific diagnostic tools would probably have been more accurate?? If a hammer won't fix it.... It's electrical!!

The car has now been fixed. It transpires it was just the connectors as per the bulletin for the sender unit. The car had between 1/4 and 1/3 of a tank, so even though the car is not supposed to be smart enough when the system detects the fuel light is on, it still seems to stop the engine.. Had a new fuel filter fitted and LR were kind to me with the price for both.

As I was out with a trailer when the problem started, I had to get towed back to my unit. The 18 miles to LR on Monday involved 18 cutouts and restarts!!!

Got there in the end. Now waiting for the next issue, as and when it arrives! 2010 3.0 TDV6 RRS Overfinch GTS
