2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Was your 2014 RRS a 292 or a 306HP? At the first service of my 306 version there was a gearbox ECU software update and paddles and Sport mode for overtaking are a now thing of the past, it simply gets up and goes now and is a dead easy car to exceed the national speed limit in a lot faster than it used to. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

It was a 292hp version. I did test the 306hp SDV6 before I placed an order for my SDV8 but by then it was difficult to make a fair comparison because I had had my 292hp SDV6 remapped by DMS. I would still take a standard SDV8 over my remapped SDV6 and I will shortly have my SDV8 remapped anyway

Were the standard brakes on the MY17 and MY16 cars adequate ?

I'm guessing they weren't excellent or they wouldn't have offered a brake upgrade package ?

You’re prob just better off test-driving both and seeing what you like. I came out of a 2016 BMW M3 into my MY16 RRS and I don’t recognise any of the comments about the SDV6 being slow or hesitant - mine pulls like a steam train from zero right through to the legal motorway speed Wink

Given the 306 SDV6 only has 30 ft/lb less torque than the SDV8 there can’t be that much in it! I drove both and didn’t notice much of a difference, but only you can tell what you’re happy with as the range of differing views on here will tell you.

Standard brakes are very good, as you’d expect.

I've driven an RRS with both engines and the SDV8 seemed the stronger car.

I would have been more inclined to at least think about the SDV6 if they didn't decide to remove the upgraded braking package that they did on the MY17 cars . . .

Has anyone driven the non SVR 5 litre, is it quite quiet ?

Does the engine suit the car in a quiet and composed way ?

I drove a 3 litre petrol RRS and it was way too revvy for my liking.

Just asking before my order locks down in a few days.

Having thoughts about the SDV8 with all the new Euro6 definitions and real world tests and stuff.

Thoughts ?

^^^

I have, the regular 5.0 SC is a fantastic drive and quiet inside the cabin. A big improvement in pretty much every way on the L320.

It can hum along in a serene manner no problem at all yet turn into a bit of a beast as and when needed.

Only you can ultimately decide but with the way things are going on diesel engines I'd go petrol V8 all the way; owned a First Edition SC for 7+ years, driven the later model and now itching to get my hands on another!
