time for new tires - mainly road recomendations requried

Hi all,

After replacing my lower arms last night and getting the car aligned this morning i am looking for a set of new tires.

I will be using mainly on the road and some off road use for site surveys up in Scotland, forestry tracks, fields and the odd mountain track Smile

Have seen people recommending the AT3's but they seem to be hard to get hold of round here, are there any other recommendations for 20" wheels.

Thanks

I've got Michelin latitude sport on my 20inch summer wheels, also noticed they have M+S on them.

Same size as mine and I have Pirelli Zero's which are proving well up to the job. I too do mostly road driving. Had no issues with these in all weathers. Barrie.

decisions decisions.

can somebody tell me what the AT3's are like in the rain in fast corners?

also which profile gives the better handling / ride and that look good on 20" rims.

Cheers

I have found the Pirelli Verde All Season to be an excellent tyre in all conditions.

Ive got these fitted to my SC,,I know they are different size but you can get them in 20”,,ive never had problems In dry or wet weather & I do drive it like I stole it as long as the weather allows,I wouldn’t like to take a Corner at silly speeds in any vehicle even with top end tyres,I always drive to the condition of the roads.

I have Grabber AT3 on 19 inch rims and they are excellent in all conditions - remembering that they are an all terrain rather than tarmac tyre. They are better than the Grabber AT all round and certainly better in the wet. They are quieter too. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Still thinking of the AT3's is there any issues with the speed rating of H, the info plate says Y?

The speed rating (H) is the max speed (130mph) that the tyre is rated to carry its maximum load. Are you likely to want to exceed 130mph 5-up with luggage? No? Then it's not a problem... Wink

Being serious, General shows the 275/40/20 as now being available in H and V ratings so you should be able to get one that you're happy with. In both cases, the load rating is 115 which is much higher than that required for the RRS. Interestingly, online suppliers show the load rating as being 106 for both speed ratings so I guess General are making them more robust from now on. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I've just fitted Grabber GTs all round. Had them on our D2 for years and they wore well - drove well several times on Salisbury Plain in the muddiest mud you can think of. "I am never content until I have constructed a model of the subject I am studying. Well took the plunge and had a set of AT3's fitted. went with the 275/45/20 110H £350 all in.

They have certainly filled the arches so will ensure i calibrate my suspension just for peace of mind.

one question i have is there is a strip of balancing weights about 30cm long on one of my wheels... is this normal or bad practice? why should they require so many weights?
