Refixing boot lettering

The 'O', 'R' & 'T' letters of the 'SPORT' lettering on my boot have come off (Don't ask) Embarassed I have the letters that came off and I need to refix them back in place on my boot. There appears to be a self-adhesive type material which originally held the letters on, some of which is still on the backs of the letters and some of which is still on the boot paintwork.

I can scrape/clean the self-adhesive type material off the backs of the letters with a glass scraper or razor blade but what should I use to clean this off the boot paintwork so I don't damage it?

Also, what product would I be best using to refix the letters back in place and where can I buy it from?

Clean it off the tailgate with wd40, gets any sticky glue off double time. I use a bit of old towel once I’ve soaked the glue and it works a treat.

Would then replace the whole lot.

I recently replaced mine as the edges of the lettering were weathered. I took the whole lot off with the wife's hair dryer and used the excess glue to take off the leftovers. I got lettering for about £10 and it came in a template so it all went on straight and took only a couple of minutes to to.

Excellent. I've ordered some new lettering and i'll give the residue on the boot a going over with WD40 until it's all removed. Thanks.
