BYE BYE UK...

It's time. Milestone

The house renovation in north Portugal is now complete. On Tuesday we load up MY05 with our 2 dogs & 2 cats and make the drive from Hampshire to our new home - via the Channel Tunnel. Some of you may remember that I bought my (LHD) RRS last year and have looked after her & loved her throughout. By the time we apply for residency over there we will be able to matriculate (re-register) her and she'll be purring with a Portuguese accent.

I'm grateful to those on this forum who have provided help and advice when needed.

Hopefully the journey will be incident free and she'll be a good girl during and after. We'll be up in the mountains and she'll be used for what she was made for.

Watch this space. Wink

 Barrie.

Only been to Portugal once. Did a walking holiday along the Costa Vicentina for a week. Fabulous coastline, nice people, lovely grub and wine. Actually, did a walking holiday in the Azores too so that's twice I've been to Portugal (in a way). Same comments about the Azores as about mainland Portugal.

Would happily retire to Portugal based on my limited experience. Enjoy! Thumbs Up

PS: will you be providing B&B for forum members who make it that far south? Whistle Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Good luck with your new life.

We took the plunge with the Dordogne and I have lived here 4 years now....best thing we ever did. A bit scary when in the first throws of moving etc but it will be worth it. Thumbs Up Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Thanks for the messages guys. What a great community this forum is.

First, the journey from Hampshire to north Portugal via the Channel Tunnel was absolutely seamless. MY05 (13 years old soon) did herself proud. My wife was dreading the journey but thoroughly enjoyed it in the end. (Like most things Rolling with laughter ) My thanks again to you all for your advice and guidance since I got the car last year and especially to West 4x4 in Waltham Chase, Hampshire for the work you did. MY05 has now served in 3 countries. Now, like me, the plan is that she will spend the rest of her days here in north Portugal.

Secondly, in answer some of your questions: Yes we are here for good, and yes we did sell up in the UK. We did all our homework first though and that's crucial. If anyone needs any advice around this by all means PM.

Thirdly: if you're ever passing it would be great to see you. Not all at once though please. Laughing Thumbs Up Seriously, if you want a pit stop off the beaten track let me know. Just give us a few months to settle in.

Best wishes to you all. Barrie.

Good luck and an uneventful journey. I have been to North Portugal and NW Spain lots of times and rate it much better than the Algarve - much less developed and some magical places to visit with few tourists and as for the beaches......... you can have miles and miles of lovely white beaches all to yourself but the water can be almost as cold as it ischere! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
