United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HST Sumatra Black
NEW Owner here! Any tips or advice? TDV8 HST

Hello everyone,
I've had my 08 RRS TDV8 for a month now and Its certainly and upgrade from what I had before!
Just wondered is there any advice you could share with me, in regards to keeping her in tip top shape.
I understand regular maintenance and servicing is key to prolonging most things! But is there anything specific I should look out for. That car currently has a 1year RAC warranty so if I can keep an eye out and locate anything that could potentially cause issues I'd like to try nip it in the bud

Anyway I'm rambling now, I think you get the gist!

Also I'm confused to as what model I have lots of abbreviations floating around
& to my understanding it is a HST model with the stormer pack on it?

I'll add some photos and if anyone can confirm for me would be lovely.

Cheers Thumbs Up

Ah brilliant, thanks for the quick reply!
I was torn between silver or black wish I had gone with the silver now its eaiser to keep clean than black, never known a car to take so much effort for a quick maintenance wash! Ha Laughing

Why do you think I got silver? Laughing I had a black Merc before this and I`d forgotten what a pain they were....it was the drying which took the time. Miss 1 water spot and it drove me mad...silver is more forgiving Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

No water spots visible here Laughing

As you've already said maintance. I change the oil and filter every 5k make sure BOTH drain plugs are removed ! I also let the car tick over after every trip short or long to let the turbos cool down. Nice looking motor by the way.
Might be worth getting the gearbox oil and filter changed, the filter is due at 10 years and also the DSC filter which is also 10 years I believe .
Have any history of the dif oils as well Bering in mind if a gen HST it will have a locking rear dif so make sure you get the correct oil 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

DSC (Dynamic Stability Control system) filter? DSC is an electric only safety system - maybe you mean the fluid in the viscous coupling or the DR system fluid (Dynamic Response, trick antiroll bars and handling control system). The other thing to need to get changed regularly will be the front suspension bushes. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Nice looking example! I'm envious of that wheel design.

+1 for changing engine oil and filter - change mine at about 7k mile intervals. Oil filter must be Land Rover original (and is crucial to be fitted with the little spigot engaged properly; the penalty for not doing that is death of your engine).
At the same time, change the air filter since turbo specialists say this reduces the strain on the turbos.

Never give it the beans until engine is properly warm which takes 10 to 15 miles, not just until the temperature gauge is in the middle.

Keeping the paintwork clean is easy if you give it a REALLY thorough detail first. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Cheers for such good replies guys!
It's a big step up from my previous car so I want to be getting familiar with all the grubbings in order to keep it in shape, I don't think I've ever heard so many horror story's regarding a vehicle before Laughing I'm hoping it's not like that for everyone!? Bow down Since people don't usually come to post a thread regarding 'my vehicle is running spot on' they are out there enjoying them.

Service history all seems to be filled in, all be it not very detailed. I will get it up on a lift in the next few weeks and give it a good going over.

As for the paint work I've given it a bit of a going over with a machine polisher and thrown on some wax to see me through the winter then when the weather picks up I'll have it fully detailed and ceramic coating installed.

Also I don't know if it's just me or a RRS thing but I find lots of people stare at me Laughing do you guys find you have people looking at you?

I've had mine about 2 months. Glad I had warranty...... Because the suspension compressor failed first of all. Then after that was fixed, it had a new fault where it kept going into limp mode. The cause was a hairline crack in the driver's side inlet manifold.... £££ to fix but luckily warranty paid up.

I did also recently have the odd light and warning come up on the dash. A new brake light switch and new brake light bulbs sorted it....

Love it to bits though.... Thumbs Up
