Evening All

I'm going to look at a 2008 RRS 69000 miles , Never having owned one what should I look for and are they as unreliable as the say ?? I'm hoping the answer is no because this has been my dream car for years finally I afford a 2008 and really want it to be a great car.

Yep, but there are good and bad ones. I've done a total of 120,000 miles in two TDV8's and the only meaningful things have been:
Alternator (a big job in a TDV8 circa £1.5k fitted)
Battery (no sweat)
Several wheel bearings (usual for any car)
Rear ARC bar (a known issue and circa £2k fitted)
EGR valves (circa £1k fitted)
My two vehicles have always been serviced on the nod, and looked after. Get one that's been abused and you will get trouble. Always drive at low revs for the first and last 5 mins of any journey - hoodlums kill turbos.
Good luck Thumbs Up

Would it be a fair comment to say I should EXPECT to pay £1000 a year on repairs ?

More, if you get bent over as in:

Shocked Shocked

A brand new Denso alternator is £200 from Advanced Factors and fitting takes a pro 2-3 hours.

I'm just an amateur and fitted mine on the driveway without needing special tools. (Did buy the special spanners to remove viscous fan but could easily have done without them). 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Just to support Paddi’s comment, I’ve just had my alternator replaced (by my local Indie, with a new Denso) at a total cost of £352.58 - all paid for by my warranty company. There seem to be 2 morals:
1 find a good indie locally
2 get a good warranty (mine is The Autogroup and no I don’t have any connections with them).

Are you thinking petrol or diesel?

I’ve had my TDV8 for 21 months and I’m now up to 71,000 miles. Total cost of repairs (as distinct from enhancements etc.) stands at £3216 of which my warranty company has paid £2319. Cost of warranty to me with still 15 months to run has been £950. Thumbs Up

In exchange for this I’ve had the privilege of driving a fantastic car. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Robin

Timf,

As stated on many occasions by members it is Main Stealers not Main Dealers. Rolling with laughter

Cheers

The RRS is an excellent car. Because they are complex they can have problems but forums often give
the wrong impression about reliability as the format invites owners to post messages about their own
personal issues with the cars to get advice rather than 'Ive had my RRS for 18 months now and never
had any problems at all with it' type posts.

Read through the forum and make your own mind up but bear in mind Land Rover has manufactured an
awful lot of RRS since 2005

Depends on what work has been carried out by the previous owner, and how well it was maintained, but £1k a year in running costs on average wouldn't be far wrong...
