IIDtool Height sensor Calibration failure

Hi all.

Had a sudden suspension fault come up and decided to get the IIDtool. Seems a great piece of kit and connects well with lots of useful functions.

Got fault in rear right(drivers side) height sensor with no voltage showing. Got new LR sensor from the dealership and replaced it. Cleared all codes and no faults come back.

Performing a calibration using Guided method is easy and without complication. However, after selecting the APPLY settings to he screen show s a procedure failed E1 notice and nothing is updated.

Problem is that the car has now decided that it will throw up a red warning and drop the sus to access height.

Any ideas as to what is the issue. I am a bit concerned that the settings for the height calibration are close for the 3 original sensors but the new one is wildly different.

example with car level and measurements set to 461 front and 465 rear the settings are 203 and 205 at the front and 213 with new sensor at 245.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

I have the same tool but not needed to do the cal yet. It sounds like it has updated the settings but the settings were to far out and maybe then given you a fail. So maybe not a fail to update but the update has led to a fail. Did you save the original file? Have you tried re calibrating with new calculations? Did you use the guide on the GAP website?

I also meant to say I don’t think the figures displayed are in my, they are just a figure. The guide suggests 493mm is a figure of 126 so if your in the 200 region, you could be trying to set the height to an impossible height. Again I’m no expert but trying to give you some avenues to explore. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Thank you for your thoughts Brit plumber.

I spent most of Sunday trying to get my head around why the car does not respond to the settings. It seems to work but what the actual real-world height is and the IIDtool measurements do not match.

As an electronic engineer, I have some understanding of the calibration procedure. basically, the system needs to have a datum point to work from and so setting the vehicle on a flat surface and adjusting the height for each corner to be 461mm at front and 465mm at the rear and locking in this calibration all makes clear sense. At this point, the height is known to the ECU and settings can be made with accuracy.

However, I get error showing and a failed E1 or sometimes E87 fault as the values are loaded into the ECU. It does seem to take the settings as you suggest but then when driving the car a few 1000 yards it throws up a red fault in sus and drops to the bump stops. (seriously unpleasant ride back home on the bump stops) I've not experienced this before and I do not recommend it to anyone. Big Cry

The point I am asking is this. Since this faulty sensor has been replaced with new genuine part from the dealer should the calibration not bee somewhere near the original 3 other sensors. it does not seem to offer the same readings anywhere close.

I have loaded some images which will show you the issue. With the factory saved calibration loaded the car is rear down and front up. but the measurements that the IIDtool are showing are wildly out of sink both visually from the images of the real-world view.

If I follow the calibration procedure then the rear right (new sensor) has to read 245 with all original sensors at about 200 or lower. then it will not update and gives the E1 error and throws a red fault drops to bump stops when driving 1000 yards or so.

I'm totally baffled now. is it possible I have the sensor hooked up wrong? Cant see how but if anyone has an image of the sensor correctly connected that would be a relief.

Does the sensor need to be coded to the car? I ask this because the part guy said it die but I dismissed this because I considered it an attempt to generate workshop work for a simple sensor replacement.

HELP Please!!

So when you first plugged in your IDD tool it would have saved the original setting's you can reset every thing back to it was as long as there were no original faults as they would also be put back you can try this or you can email pat at gap as they would be able to help and yes i would have thought if you just tried to set the one new ride sensor first before trying to reset all four it may be the right way to do it but i may be wrong Thumbs Up

Thanks.
I did save the settings and the images posted are those that were saved loaded again.

Could you assist me with the details of the Pat you mentioned so I can email them now? there does not appear to be any form of contact phone details on their website.

Cheers

I get "Operation Failed E40" and "E41".

I have never been successful calibrating the height.

You have a fault with the rear left sensor too, going by those readings...
