Anyway thought I’d check on TFL website and surprisingly my 1994 L reg Ford Iveco 4 litre diesel lorry is free to take into central London Thumbs Up Not sure how my horse lorry doesn’t spew enough emissions to warrant a stealth tax?? I’ll be taking a trailer anyway as I don’t fancy navigating central London in a 7.5t lorry

Any vehicle that was built before the emissions tables etc were set up are exempt as nothing on record for their emissions, and as no longer made cannot be tested so all exempt....until they find a legal way around this! Whistle John

On the full documentation it's has a funny way of putting it: "Charges will be carried out from your vehicle registration number plate, 08 and onwards on not chargeable unless the vehicle is listed on the list of vehicles that have to pay due to emissions output level" So as you say having a 57 plate but registered 2008 or 2008 model year won't make you exempt for some reason. Just appeal each time as not surely correct in Law, but watch out if over 210g emissions even if Euro 4, as they will get you that way. All speed cameras etc will have facility to take your details for emissions as well as the special cameras and congestion cameras. Whistle Big Cry

My 2015.5MY SDv6 is on a 57 plate but the TT calculator shows it as being exempt - could it be that if the car is first registered with an old plate then it works but if you transfer a plate then you can get hit? The system also shows it as being on the right car as the plate has been on several RRS’s and Jaguars prior to being on my present Sport. It seems that their database is inconsistent. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Andy I have had some very generous offers to buy the plate from Porsche, Audi and Ford Focus RS owners because it also reads FASTR RS...........and I have so far resisted all offers. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Good spot Tim. So my car with its original reg number is exempt (08 plate) but with the personalised number (which starts VCool it is subject to T-charge. The difference being that with the personalised number it correctly finds the make and model, but with the old number it fails to find the make and model but still approves it. Presumably because it is programmed to allow an 08 plate car no matter what. So if I carry the old plates with me... Wink

Judging by the errors already picked up with the database tfl are using, either a fair few will be wrongly charged or they are in for a lot of appeals.
Without getting all political, its unusual for Labour (Mr Khan) to hit on the less well off as they are doing here. Not as socialist as they like to make out are they?

It's because your 15.5 meets the minimum Euro4 requirment. I just checked my MY16 and I got this message...

Thank you for using the T-Charge checker. Your vehicle is not subject to the T-Charge.

Your vehicle meets at least the Euro 4 / IV standard (Euro 3 if you are a motorised tricycle or quadricycle).
SOLD - MY16 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic - Fire Engine Red, Fixed contrast pan roof, TV, Dual Screen, 5+2, Privacy, Noble paddles.

Australia 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

Its good to see rational government is alive and well in British cities:
- Anti tank traps that wont let a car bigger than a Smart car through.
- Congestion charges so that Government doesnt have to carryout proper traffic planning and can raise more taxes.
- Road tax based upon emissions. I cant think of a logical reason here apart from raing more taxes.
- Emissions surcharge. I can't think of any logical reason here apart from raising more taxes.

There was a BBC tv program called The Guardians - Hint

I think more people should buy Ford F450's (see picture below) to keep Governement in check. I will be buying one to replace my L320 TDV8. I'd buy the F550 but its not available here.

- Anti tank traps won't bother it and we dont have those.
- Congestion charges - we dont have those.
- Emmissions surcharge - we dont have those.
- Road taxes based on emmisions. We have a more logical system based upon engine size. Not significantly different between small and big engines.

We don't have any toll roads or regular testing of cars for roadworthyness or emissions.

The good thing is most Range Rover Drivers have purchased their cars to drive in the bush where there is no Congestion Tax? I see a lot of the Range Rover Poser crowd changing vehicles as the tax increases, or perhaps buying a Range Rover with a 1 liter engine so it can pass the congestion tax emission rules and still looks like they are driving a RR. Seems the brand is getting a bit like Hardley Davidson Riders , all about the brand. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

On an old Top Gear, Ross Noble was discussing his purchase of a self propelled gun (good story and can be found on YouTube here ).

And that was congestion charge exempt Exclamation

Perhaps that's the way forward... Rolling with laughter Robin
