New Tyres - Which ones?

Hi,

Been a stranger for a while, Replaced lower front wish bones for MOT. Set all settings up myself earlier on in the year. And this weekend just gone replaced all rear wishbones, both upper and lower on each side. Judging by the state of the 1 year old tyres I either really Censored up the alignment or the wish bone shagged bushes did more damage to the tyres then I thought they would.

So my plan it to have it 4 wheel aligned - Any recommendations near Scunthorpe (N Lincs) and to buy some new tyres, but what are the most sensible and cost effective tyres to get? I don't drive it a lot and do take it off road but not very often?

Suggestions welcomed.

Cheers...............Boost.

A proper alignment would be sensible Whistle Rolling with laughter

As for tyres, if you take it off road, what sort of off road? Standard Pirellis work well for occasional not-too-muddy work. If you want a reasonable all terrain tyres, the Grabber AT3 is working well for me so far. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I have a set of Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow going for a song if you're after a bargain? Don't do a huge amount of mileage either, and ran these over the summer as well as winter with no dramas at all.

On the other note, have just had a new set of Avon ZX7's fitted and am very impressed so far- nice and quiet, with decent response. Have to see how they fare when/if it gets really cold. £467 (255/50 19) fitted via Black Circles, over £100 less than any of the local tyre places near me... You can't see the eyes of the demon until him come callin'

Second the General Grabber GT's, had them 2 weeks now loving the ride. Probably a little more body roll than my 22" 30 profile I ditched but smoother ride way makes up for it. For the price I cannot complain !

He mentions off road use and the GT isn't an off road tyre in any way. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi,
there is a place in Louth that has all the correct gear and I have been told very good at what they do, not got a name as it is where famous Four take their cars for setting up, so you could speak to them regarding set up.

as for tyres why not go for a set of Pre-owned GGAT's Whistle you can always sell on your old set or keep for some True Winter tyres

Thumbs Up Porsche Cayenne 2022
gone Porsche Cayenne 2020
gone Corris Grey HSE Dynamic 2016
gone Ipanema HSE lux 2010
gone Rimini HSE 2005
!!

Hi,

Thanks for all your replies, had the 4 wheel alignment done, looks like the front was OK so I didn't Censored up the settings which was good news. But following changing the rear wish bones, I did not adjust at all and it was miles out! To the extent the ABS was coming on round corners and car twitching! The bloke at Bush said that alignment been that far out could cause that and he was proved to be right! Anyway all settings corrected and it was a different motor.

Got even better when I put the new boots on, went for Avon ZX7's, £356 for 4 fitted, from local tyre unit in village - well pleased with price and results. All ready for the wet stuff! Didn't realise they were an 'A' rating for wet grip either!

That's a bargain for a set of ZX7's, everywhere I looked and phoned (apart from Black Circles) wanted nearer the £600 mark!! Thought £467 was pretty good...
What size rims do you have? You can't see the eyes of the demon until him come callin'

They are 255/55/18. He's recently put a full set on my work car and I took my daughters car for a set so he's looked after me! 👍
