In the new edition of autoexpress there is several photos and details of the 2018 RRS". The new prices start just up under £3k on MY17 models. Top price with all selectable extras to over £100,000.
This includes details of the Hybrid "electric" versions meant to be capable of 101mpg but with a pathetic range. Thud

The range is on a par with current technology for 13 kwh but Mitsubishi announced in 2016 next generation will have 75 miles EV range https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motor-s...t-revealed LR needs to up its game considering how late they are to the party and the prices Confused

And that is under the new more realistic method of calculating mpg, I'm sure that under the old scheme LR would have been able to fiddle it show the car didn't need any petrol at all and then the more realistic figure would be NIL mpg!
I think the mpg is going to just like all PHEVs, totally unrealistic as how can you say how much EV use you will get. I met a couple with a Muddywheels wagon who had been able to run 98% of their trips in electric mode in their Outlander, they ran all the time in EV mode and only used petrol when the engine diagnostics told them that the petrol was loosing is quality and they had to run with the ICE. For most of my motoring now 31 miles range is OK, could be better but I do a 16 miles each way run that is on a mostly flat and straight roads I doubt very much I would ever see 31 miles out of a charge, I would think a more real life figure might be 25 miles. Where I park now there are 6 charger units that are unused most of the time, if I can do the run to town and then leave the car to charge while shopping then in theory I could do the trip in totally EV mode BUT I like my comforts like heated seats, heated steering wheel, heated front screen and climate control and they all consume lots of energy.
I wonder if in the PHEV the radio will still only give you 10 minutes listening before it shuts down........ to save flattening the battery! 2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, preceeded by a 2.7SE RRS, a 3.6TDv8 RRS, several FFRR's and 2 Evoques.
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW.... my fun car to enjoy bashing and denting 20 years old and still giving loads of fun

So much utter eyewash (to stay polite) quoted about PHEV and pure EV range figures and mpg.

It really does need sorting out, as so many people without engineering knowledge fall for it hook line and sinker.

In exactly the same way as they did for the current emissions/economy test figures. MY2016 HSE D SDV6

Tim - on mitsubishi using air con, heated seats and steering wheel makes no difference to EV range but using climate control heater canes the range Sad

I use the timed climate or phone app to preheat and this helps maintain battery range in winter if plugged in when activated - I also like the fact I can do this while in garage with doors closed unlike the webasto Thumbs Up

Mpg will vary more on a PHEV than any vehicle I've owned depending on use - I have had 164 mpg best out of a tank and 34 mpg worst - all depends on your journey/charge pattern

However I only averaged 35 mpg out of DS Diesel not claimed 53 mpg so I'm still better off Mr. Green

Other than political expediency, I'm struggling to see the point of a large 4x4 PHEV. Weight is the biggest cause of fuel use on any vehicle that doesn't spend it's life at constant motorway speeds. A lightweight vehicle with decent modern ICE would seem to be a better bet if mpg is an issue. Using batteries to hold regen braking charge is sensible as that's getting back some otherwise wasted energy. Otherwise, meh.

LR would be better losing half a tonne from the weight of their vehicles. The so called "lightweight" RRS2 is still basically 2.5t on the road. Make a true 2t RRS and you're getting 20% better fuel use straight away! 2012 SDV6

I've had mine a year now and totally get the point of a PHEV

I can use it locally on electric for peanuts and still cruise long range in comfort on petrol if needed with reasonable economy

Plus I still have 4x4 benefits for winter

The world is round not flat by the way Wink

Muddy, I get PHEV as a concept. I really do. It's the idea of a fully capable 2.5 tonne 4x4 PHEV I don't get. Yours is a 4wd estate car ( in effect) and works well as such. It'll tow an ordinary caravan and will traverse a farm track - perfect for most. Thumbs Up If you don't need towing or off road ability then there are loads of options in the hybrid/electric market e.g. BMW i3, Tesla, Prius etc etc.

The RRS PHEV is entirely able to chase Defenders in to the depths of nowhere. Why? Entirely pointless because most just do school runs or trips to Waitrose. It exists to keep politicians happy, nothing more.

Actually, the world is very lumpy and mostly wet. Not PHEV territory at all... Whistle Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6
