I'm confused (not for the first time!).
I have a 2005 SC and it has ACC but I can choose to have it on or off with controls on the steering wheel.
I've never bothered with switching it on apart from playing around with it so have assumed it's off? Never had a problem with it auto braking etc
Am I missing something? I thought it was switchable/settable.
Sorry if it's a dumb question but I feel confused now!

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

Yes, you can turn it off at the steering wheel, but it disengages the cruise control completely it does not revert it to manual operation. If yours does for some reason it's a bonus

I really like ACC but you have to remember what its designed for. Its a motorway cruising aid and not really something for A roads for the reasons others have stated cos it pick up random other things and slams on the brakes. (But yes, I do use it on some A roads and in town to make sure I don't exceed the speed limit cos I'm a good boy Wink ).

On motorways and with the distance setting on its longest, I cruise along quite happily and when the distance warning light comes on I move out into the overtaking lane. At that point the car hasn't started to slow down appreciably and so my speed is hardly affected.

I do agree that it is a bit slow in reacting when a car in front of you has moved out of the way, and then its quite a hard acceleration to get back up to you preset speed. But as has been said, temporary use of the accelerator at that point to get back towards your cruise speed setting is not the end of the world. Robin

Yeah you're right about it being purely a motorway cruising aid. It works well enough for that. Just a shame it can be a liability using it on A/B roads. Toggling between ACC and CC seems like an obvious thing you'd want to do.

I've never used it myself (properly) but there is a button near the hazards that turns off/on forward alert (not the button for the parking sensors), This may well disable the radar on the ACC.

Aha! So Socast, it appears that there are variations in design. Well who'd-a-thought it?

Here's my dashboard (TDV8 2008)

I may well be interpreting the Handbook wrong, but It say forward alert is active when switched on and ACC is off. It gives you the same warning as ACC without the braking aspect, it makes no mention of it turning off the Automatic side and reverting to Manual control of the Cruise Control i.e. set speed with no braking effect. If I remember correctly I always had it turned off in my old sport because I found the permanent green icon illumination in the instrument panel annoying when turned on. It made absolutely no difference to the ACC operation itself.

Cheers
Col
