Potential new owner

Hi guys, just made a brief introduction in another thread, but here goes...

Looking to buy a 2013 RR Sport SDV6 HSE quite soon.

I'm completely new to Range Rover, or Land Rover for that matter, and i'm not one to tinker with cars myself.

Now we all know the reputation of questionable reliability when it comes to Range Rover, but i'd like to know what I can expect from the average RR Sport with 90k on the clock.

A big decision I have to make is whether to buy a warranty, or do I simply put the money aside each month and hope for the best? I'm blowing my budget on the car, so I don't currently have money lying around for repairs. On the other hand, I am cyclist who is happy to ride to work, so if the car was off the road for a while (within reason) the world wouldnt end.

I have never bought a warranty, and have generally done ok, but its just down to reputation which makes me a bit paranoid.

You may wonder then, why i'm considering a RR... basically always loved the looks/feel, and it ticks most boxes for a strong family weekend car.

If I go for a warranty, are there any specific companies to consider?

Thanks for any help !

I forgot to mention, it is a private sale, so no warranty supplied.

Hi,with 90k on the clock if you take it to a LR dealer for a health check & if everything is ok then you will be able to put a 12 month warranty on it.

Thanks. Are you talking about a LR warranty, or any warranty? i.e. Could I not just use Warranty Direct or similar, without a health check?

Sorry, i've never had a warranty before and don't know how it works.

Scotland 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Santorini Black

Hi there, just to give you some perspective, I've had mine since 2010 and covered nearly 90k miles (mainly short journeys at that) In that time the only things that have been replaced are the air suspension compressor at 4 years, the handbrake mechanism, again at 4 years, and wishbone rubbers, which when worn, make the dreaded knocking sound, again at 4 years old. Year four was an expensive year! Since then, I have only replaced the rubbers on the wishbones (this year) with poly bushes, this gives a slightly stiffer ride, but better turn in, and should last longer than rubber bushes. The 3ltr has been a gem, and had no issues.
If I'd had a warranty , the bushes wouldn't have been covered, as they are a wear and tear item. I'd say stick a grand a year aside for work other than servicing, and if you don't use it, you are quids in.
Cheers

Wales 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Lux Sumatra Black

That’s a high mileage for a four year old car, there are plenty of 2012/2013 models with 50,000+ miles, some lower, a much safer bet all round. Once at 100,000 miles no chance of purchasing a decent warranty, so take care or have it fully checked out first, but if not from a LR dealership, you should get a LR warranty ASAP. Full 12 month enhanced about £1100. John

Hi shinsplint

Are you looking to buy a L494 (current shape) or the previous L320 Range Rover Sport?

Codfather (Dave)

Thanks for your helpful insight.

Can I ask, when you talk about the 4th year, is this the 4th year from new ie. Have you had the car from new?

With the car im looking at being 4yrs old, im wondering whether the replacement parts you mentioned will be due any time.

I'd imagine that little lot won't have been cheap to replace.

Cheers.
