Newbie about to purchase a TDV8

Hi all

New guy here who's on the hunt for a TDV8

Been doing lots of reading, mostly on this forum and decided to begin my hunt for a TDV8

Bit of backround with me, been working in the motor trade for 10+ years (7years Toyota, currently with BMW)

BMW man at heart, V10 M5 is the weekend toy, but cant find an X5/X6 within budget that I like/want, and always had a soft sport for the Sport

Recently got a test drive of a 2007 TDV8, which I really liked, so I will be going for one in the near future

Just a few questions though:

1. Is the fridge a rare option? I'm fairly sure i've saw photos of some cars with them, would be a nice thing but I wouldnt hold out for one

2. Sunroof a rare option? I read that somewhere on here, but the car I tested had one, also while on the subject of the roof, Headlining only available in Cream?

3. Is there any way to stop both mirrors dipping when reversing? Or is this just what they do?

4. Why are there some 2009 cars that seem to be facelift and some 2010 one's that arent?

5. Was there an option for a power tailgate at all?

I'll probably add more to this thread over time

Hi and welcome fridge is not that rare and can be picked form around £100 and easy to fit.Sunroof not that rare but they do leak a lot.Dipping mirrors in reverse can be turned off.2009 was when the face lift came out.And i think the power tailgate came out in 2011/12 i seem to recall but may be wrong and you can also get a black head lining as well as grey i think Thumbs Up

Hi Geoff

Didnt know the fridge could be retrofitted!

Power tailgate is defintly out then!

As for the mirrors I take it that has to be programmed out with the likes of Autologic etc?

Mirrors can be programmed with onboard menu, no need for Autologic or anything else.

Think the fridge was standard on hse, and I don't think the Tdv8 came in anything below hse, in the UK at least.

Oddily enough the one I test drove didnt have one?

As for towing, they seem to be a good enough vehicle for it? (2tonne car plus 5.0m trailer)

Hoping to make the leap in the next month or so!

I would have thought that if a TDV8 can't tow your trailer then you need to be looking for a tractor. Smile

I think the towing weights etc. are all covered in the handbook so have a check there before parting with any cash Robin

They will pull 3.5t. Maybe consider a remap to really bring it to life.

Glad to hear it'll easily tow the M5 or similar!

As for Towbars, Genuine LR Detach one any good? Or better off going for a Westfalla (sp) or the likes?

The one I looked at they wernt sure if it had one as it'd never been used for anything other than weekend drives

I sold my 2009 TDV8 a year ago which Id run from new and still have the odd regret

Anyway the above advice is sound - and why cant every car have a fridge? - but there was a recall on towbars which every owner will have had a letter about 2-3y ago

The easiest thing is to search here - essentially JLR wussed out of supporting the detachable towbar after a series of catastrophic failures and if you regularly tow pushed you into having a fixed one fitted at no cost

Cheers

TowTrust tow bars are excellent bits of kit. Fitted one to my TDV8 for towing our horse trailer. The LR removable ball used to cause little thuds through the chassis when braking etc. No such thing with the Tow Trust system. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks for the advise on the Towbar!

All food for thought!

Still waiting to get a drive of a trade contact's TDV8 with less than 70k on it just as comparsion on how one "should" drive

Also most of the one's over here in Northern Ireland are TDV6's...
