Rear demister.

Anyone know how much a rear screen is to replace? My rear demister doesn`t work. It`s been to an auto electrician and he said there`s power to the screen so the screen itself must be at fault Sad

Orrrrrrr......would it be covered on the insurance like the windscreen??? Ta.

Edit.
Or is this a likely culprit?

May not be that bad

Hi, love this forum.
10 min browsing, 20 min repairing, done Cool
Mine fault was also bad connection.

My 5 cents to this topic: corroded connector is fairly impossible to open with fingertips. I found there's a small gap next to securing clip, between connector halves. Stick small flat screwdriver, about 3mm or 1/8" wide to that gap and gently twist. Connector separates by Zero effort.

OP's problem is very likely to be the corroded connector issue. Don't forget though that the battery conserving behaviour of the car includes selectively inhibiting high current consuming devices including the screen heaters. Accordingly on a cold day with a partially discharged battery it is common for the screen heaters to fail to work until the engine has been running for a few minutes.

It always seems to be best to start her up and idle for a few minutes before switching on the screen heaters. Can be a bit of a pain if you are in a hurry to get away so fully charging the battery ahead of cold weather helps. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

To remove spoiler its 2 torx bolts (which can be a little seized) and 3 10mm plastic buts

once loose disconnect pipe and brake light.

Not sure why you would want to wait before putting the front screen on. As you say it does its own regulation.

But yeah, leave the rear off, to ensure the heated seat is enabled Rolling with laughter

I wonder if the auto electrician actually took the connector apart to check for supply to the screen. How would he have checked otherwise?

I had this problem on mine, LR dealer claimed to have checked and power was going to the screen. Recommended new glass. Eventually got around to checking the connector myself. It had never been opened and was corroded. Easy fix once the connector is opened up. Indeed, I had to redo the procedure ear
Irrespective this year - about 4 years after having first done it.

For the LR dealer / auto electrician, saying "new glass" is an easy out. To fit new glass the connector will be opened and no doubt cleaned up. Result will be a working screen either way. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Was it much ball ache taking the spolier off? I`d probably have to do it on my own. Steve.

No mate it’s quite easy
Just undo all the bolts 5
Close the boot and lift near the brake light
It will lift

Put a big towel on the roof as you'll have to lay the spoiler on it. When you refit the spoiler, be careful not to nip the rear washer supply pipe in between spoiler and roof as I once did! You won't realise until trying to wash the rear screen. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
