Electronic Park Brake issue.

Ok, so this is my first fault. Applied the brake yesterday when I got the car home and it was fine.....even held in neutral on my drive which has a slight slope, impressed. Got home from work this morning, applied it and it made an awful squealing noise with message, park brake inoperable...or something similar.

Tried again not long ago and it was fine.

I googled it and read it may be that the shoes need adjusting. The guy I bought it from said it may also be the fact it hasn`t been used in the 4 months since he`s had it.

He has said if it happens again then I should find a local specialist and he`ll sort me out, which is good.

Could it be that they sometimes don`t get used very often? Steve.

Don't no if this will help but hope so, me and the wife went away on holiday for two weeks came back to the long stay car park started the car pressed release on the handbrake and reversed only to hear a crunch and grinding noise. Drove it home booked it into the local LR dealership mechanic said they had ceased on in the two weeks away and advised us to leave the hand brake off if it was to be left for any length of time. Then came there bill £600 Big Cry hope you hav'nt got the same problem Bow down

Ah right. I don`t think it`s siezed as it worked just now. I had similar on my Scooby when I`d washed the car and then it froze over night.....shredded the ABS rings Laughing That was costly. Steve.

How can you leave the handbrake off, it comes on automatically when ignition is turned off and you leave it in Park, which if you don't put it into Park, it also returns whatever position it was in back to Park? Whistle
I am of course talking about electronic handbrake which is fitted to most models. Wink John

Sorry, Does it not have electronic hand brake system? Just checked my handbook and it also states in there this is a normal procedure. John

Info from facelift manual MY12 and actually seen when getting back into car, and the gear change dial you actually see move to Park. Not doubting you at all, it could be a later introduction, if so I'm sorry not knowing about the earlier models. Embarassed
Also if you leave handbrake on when trying to drive away it turns it off/releases it. John

Sounds like it needs adjusting.
Refer to Bodsys Brake Bible on Disco3 forum http://www.disco4.com/wiki/Maintenance or even better still have Bodsy come and look at it for you at the expense of the seller Thumbs Up
He's one of the mobile mechanics that are LR gurus and site sponsors. He's the closest to you being based out of Telford.
I'd be pushing that option Thumbs Up
And then use it every time you park up to avoid future issues as it's an MOT test item. Plus have it cleaned and adjusted every annual service Visitor from fullfatrr.com

Wot he said - use the bible to adjust it in the short term then get Bodsy over to do a full overhaul etc.
He also fits remote kits for the fuel burning heater for winter, software updates and other great things Thumbs Up Visitor from fullfatrr.com

My 13MY did not automatically apply the EPB so I used my iiDTool to set it to do this, which it now does unless I manually select P first. From memory it is a feature for manual gearboxes (didn't think any RRS's were manual, possibly Discoveries?) as there would not be any gearbox park function. But I enabled it as I prefer to know the handbrake is on (also stops it seizing through lack of use). 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine
