DA Polisher - Backing Plate, Pads & Swirl Remover

Hi everyone,

I have always applied swirl remover and polishes using the tried and tested manual method but, after reading all the good reviews of the Challenge Extreme DA polisher, I have taken the plunge and purchased one!

I plan to try it on my wife's car before tackling the RRS so I am looking for some helpful advice for a DA polisher novice.

The backing plate seems a bit large for some of the panels and angles on the bodywork so I am considering changing the backing plate to either a 4" or 5" so I can use smaller pads. Is this a good idea? Has anyone done this and does anyone know what the thread is for the backing plate on this model of DA polisher?

My wife's car is a solid red colour and has slight swirl marks only really visible in direct sunlight. What type of foam pad and swirl remover do people recommend. It has been suggested that, as a novice, I start with Poorboys World SSR 1.0 Swirl Remover with a Lake Country Orange Light Cutting Pad. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks Thumbs Up

Steve

You can

Get Various sizes of backing pads I have a 5 inch and a 2.5 Inch plate for smaller areas. I went with polished bliss initially and their advice but found they were airing on the cautious side. I went with scholl products S20 and 30+And spider/waffle pads. I did my RR Sport which took about 60 hrs but I remember lined 25 of that was wasted by the initial advice, like I said aired on the cautious side. The scholl stuff is easy to work just remember side to side then up and down apply medium pressure for the first 90 seconds then easing off. Keep brushing yr pads every 5 product applications so you don’t get a build of polish and you will get results. When I finished mine I had a detailer apply a product on top from Siramik and he said as a first try with a DA I did a top job

Good luck and if you need anything else shout up
