As stated earlier, I believe it has more to do with Post Code than anything else, but I am with Direct Line and they did NOT require a tracker to be fitted.

Also beware the last part of postcode also effects your quote, and certain streets within same postcode can be "loaded" Whistle

Direct Line last year would only insure me with a proven Tracker fitted, and I'm in lowest postcode group area. John

I have my doubts about that as I insure property and vehicles with Direct Line for several years (still insure my P38 with them) but when buying my RRS last year they would not insure, even when I mentioned my postcode - to my knowledge Orkney is in the lowest postcode category, it's not as if anyone can drive a stolen car away... They had to have a tracker fitted, the bloke checked with the underwriters.

I would be very happy if they would as their price for me beats everyone else by far.

Edit:. I'm not doubting you getting insured, it's the postcode bit. Maybe just new vehicles (as I'm not a new customer, I was trying to change from an XF to RRS with them)

It's not just new vehicles, Direct Line would only insure me with a tracker fitted from their approved list, on my eight year old RRS.
To be honest, Ive no idea why I asked them for a quote as their own in house accident repair company, UK Assistance (now DLG Auto Services) is truly appaling. They are a 'production line' of accident repairs with the emphasis on quantity over quality, repairing damage as cheaply as possible. At least that was the experience I had after a Royal Mail truck ran into the back of my Freelander a few years ago. Sure, they come and get the car within a couple of hours, which they WANT to do before you seek to get the repair done by someone else and thus, someone more expensive. (Which you are legally entitled to do).
The quality of the repair though was so poor, I could have done better with a tin of filler and a couple of rattle cans. Shut lines, paint runs, overspray on glass, more damage at the front of the car which wasn't there when they picked it up... I rejected 3 times before they presented something almost acceptable.
Since then, I've tried to avoid insuring with anyone from Direct Line Group which includes, Churchill, Privilege plus a couple of others.
Now, when I or the wife have an accident, we always use a company called PL Carbodies in Warwick regardless of what an insurance company want us to do. Their standard of repairs is exceptional. The downside is, if the accident is not the fault of a third party, I may not get a courtesy car.

One problem with Direct Line is an undeclared vested interest........... they own one of the tracker system suppliers who just happens to be lower priced than the others! They have a list of alternatives because otherwise there would be competition issues 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Anyone thinking of insuring with a Direct Line Group insurer, have a read of this

and this

If you are insured with a Direct Line Group company and are unfortunate to have a bump, DO NOT let DLG Auto Services (formerly known as UK Assistance) anywhere near your pride and joy. Insist, as is your right, you use a repairer of your choice. If it's too late and you're car is already with DLG/UK Assistance, don't sign the acceptance form until you are completely happy with the repair. Reject any shoddy workmanship and refuse to give the courtesy car back until the repair is perfect.

When dealing with churchill they tried to promote a tracking service. I found out today that apparently Direct Line own Churchill. Not sure if this is right or wrong but I can see a lot of synergies with what people are saying.
