Replacement headunit options

The headunit in my 2005 RRS has packed up, well it turns on but the volume doesn't work at all when turning the knob or using the steering wheel controls, I was looking at just buying a replacement LR one off eBay but wondered what other options there are to get something a bit more modern, it has the Harmon Kardon system and amp but no nav.

Just a thought but
Have you checked the amp under the drivers seat ?
I had the same issue lately , head unit worked but no sound .
Turned out it was the amp after the wife had spilt water on it Thumbs Up

The amp looks ok, on the headunit it's not displaying the volume when you turn the knob up and down so thought if the amp was at fault it would display the volume but there would be no sound?.

It's usually the Amp, but sometimes the head unit.
It's not quite straight forward to change the Amp and keep the nav screen. Needs some interconnects (now available on the web instead of having to make your own up) Bodsys Brake Bible

Think it does that if there is no optical fibre network connection at the HU

Mine also didn't show any input when I turned the dial up or down
The amp showed no physical sign of damage , I tried everything I could think of , until eventually
Borrowing an amp from my workmates car . Twenty minutes swapping them over and everything worked as normal ..... bought new amp and been drowned in sound ever since Thumbs Up

Thanks guys, so something could have come loose at the back?, or sounds like it could be the amp?, I'm fine with buying either a new amp or headunit I'd just rather buy the one I actually need!.
How difficult is it to get the headunit out to have a look?, I undid the star panels holding it i
