That looks nice Andy $90,000 Aussie dollars . That car would have been in the $160,000 Aussie range when new or 95 pound in your language.

With all due respect, currency comparison is largely meaningless.

Back in 2014 when the car was bought the GBP/AUD rate would have been vastly different, and just because something is cheaper/expensive in one country the cost of living will largely be relative to that cost. SOLD - MY16 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic - Fire Engine Red, Fixed contrast pan roof, TV, Dual Screen, 5+2, Privacy, Noble paddles.

Australia

I think the costs given here and currency calcs were about trying to show the depreciation in terms that UK readers could understand. This was the tenor of the thread and hence my reply. I agree pricing in other countries does not mean a great deal, except how the manufacture wants to maximize profits by optimising production efficiency etc.
When the Aussie dollar was parity with the US Range rovers were 40% less expensive in the US , I ride a BMW motor cycle which again is much less expensive in the US. Cars in general are less expensive in the US why? M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

United Kingdom

They are probably more expensive because:

1. Luxury Car Tax
2. Import duty
3. Cost of transportation to Australia
4. Comparatively small market
5. USA prices always exclude local state taxes which always hit you at "checkout" 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

But again, you are comparing a price with a price, you are ignoring what makes a price cheap/expensive.

The cost of living, salaries, interest rates, mortgage rates, economic policies tax etc, all contribute to what makes something more expensive than the other.

A car may be 10% cheaper, but their cost of living might be cheaper, and/or what they tax. There are so many contributing factors that comparing the selling cost of something is largely irrelevant. SOLD - MY16 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic - Fire Engine Red, Fixed contrast pan roof, TV, Dual Screen, 5+2, Privacy, Noble paddles.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Prices are so much lower in the USA for one reason - huge competition between car makers to sell products and we in Europe have to pay highly inflated pre-tax prices to make up the difference for the car makers. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Cars in the US are generally cheaper, because they are normally crappy US market specific built models made with cheaper materials and poor quality. European brands are not that much cheaper in fact more often than not they are in line. Also don't forget US prices exclude sales tax which varies by state. SOLD - MY16 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic - Fire Engine Red, Fixed contrast pan roof, TV, Dual Screen, 5+2, Privacy, Noble paddles.

Whenever I have aske US friends to price a vehicle that I was interested in here, it works out $ for £ - i.e. a whole lot cheaper!

And the main reason here is Car Sales tax (10%?) plus VAT (20%) on the new car cost. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.
