New side steps

Had a productive few hours yesterday fitting new side steps to The Old Man's RRS.
Really easy to fit, once I'd got the old trims off I gave the whole area a really good clean up before fitting the new bits.
Really pleased with the result! Cool

Hi fRRED,
Side Steps look really good! Were they original LR steps or aftermarket?
I am looking to put some on my 2013MY RRS and there is a huge difference in cost between the LR OEM steps and aftermarket steps. Not sure that it is worth paying the extra for OEM steps. Any thoughts from anyone?
Regards,
Steve

Ey up Steve, thanks, they do look nice fitted don't they?
My Old Man decided on aftermarket because, as you say the OEM ones are mega money. The set we chose (I think anyway) are a very close match to the original design and tread pattern. The quality of the parts was brilliant and arrived without any 'in transit' damage, which has got to be a first ever for something I've ordered online! I'm sure this was due to the way each item was wrapped, secured and boxed by the sender.
If you're fitting them yourself, and they really are very easy to do, I'd definitely recommend removing the front sill trim, the vid's I watched avoided doing this, to make less work I think, but upon removing the rear trims, the amount of road crud and gutter slush that was caught up behind made it a 'no brainer' to remove the fronts and give it all a good old clean out.
I'm now investing in a set of mudflaps as a prezzie for him to hopefully reduce the amount forced in.
Maybe aftermarket will not be for the purists but overall The Old Lad was very happy with the finished fit, so that makes me happy. Thumbs Up

Hi Kev,
Thanks for the reply and info. I too find it difficult to justify the OEM price if I can find a good aftermarket product. I think that I will also invest in some mud flaps based on your experience as my RRS will be a long term 'keeper'.

Do you by chance still have the details of the online retailer you purchased the steps from?
Thanks again for taking the time to respond, you have reinforced my view that forums are a great source of info and owners real life experiences Thumbs Up

Cheers

Steve
