SC 4.2 and 5.0

1.) Does anyone have any information regarding the posibility of rebuilding the old 4.2 to the newer 5.0 version of the RRS? Is this posible?
2.) Tips regarding which workshops that can perform this conversion?
3.) If not possible is there any workshops that can do a good job of replacing the old 4.2 and transmission of the SC 4.2?
4.) Is it possible to get a proper V8 in a Discovery 4?

3. Anyone who is able to remember which connectors go where and which nuts go on which mounts should be able to do a swap.

Making this kind of change is too expensive and you're better off just trading it in for a 5.0 SC. that's what we would do here in Canada.

RRS rebuild

Please answer the question if you can. I am from Norway not Canada. It is almost impossible to buy 2010-2012 SC 5.0l, cheaper to rebuild due to government regulations and Extreme taxis on import of these cars. Very Happy

I don't see why it shouldn't be possible as the underpinnings of the car are still a Discovery 3, just the bodywork and engines were upgraded in 2010 not the basic underpinnings. As stated above member Disco-Mikey has already converted a D4 to a V8, but IIRC it was a TDv8 lump that he installed not a petrol engine. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The 5.0 uses a different type of CAN bus (11-bit) so swapping from 4.2 to 5.0 is also a matter of replacing the whole in-car electronics, starting with the gauges and ending with the ECUs. Regards etc.,

wouldn't it be easier to just import a full 5.0 SC engine and retrofit that? --

Yes, that was what I would like to do, I have to replace the hole engine With Control systems but from whom? Have to import this as Complete as possible because there are no specialist in Norway. Also see the replay above.
I also Wonder if I could drive the car England or another country in Europe and have the workshop abroad do the work.
I dont know.
Thank you for the replay!

Agree. Just waiting for more information about which workshop or persons who can perform this. There is a lot of options regarding both cars.

I did answer your question from my point of view. How am I supposed to know what your local and national regulations are???

If you want to do ALL of this you would need:

The engine
The transmission
Update the software to reflect the new changes
New engine and tranny mounts

A HELLUVA LOT of mechanical hours

Lastly, a hefty bill....

Or you could just trade up.

Only you know what your best options be are

Plenty of aftermarket specialists and Indies in Scotland and also Northern England who would be delighted to take you money to carry out the job - best to contact somebody like Disco-Mikey on this forum - he is in Dundee but there are companies in Killin, Auchterarder and Newcastle well up to doing this sort of work. Might even be worth contacting BAS (Bell Auto Services) in York or Twisted Performance (although their speciality is Defenders rather than D3/D4/RRS). Dare I mention them here........There is even Kahn and Overfinch further south 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
