Air filters

Hi guys,

Can someone recommend a low restriction air filter? Panel/ cone isn't important as is modification of the air box/ tubes.

4.2 supercharged 2006.

Many thanks.

Don't do it.

All the independent testing I've seen published usually shows aftermarket so-called performance air filters do not increase power and may even decrease it. In addition they are less efficient at filtering out particles that wear out the engine.

Much better (and cheaper) to just use a good quality OEM air filter and change it more frequently than the recommended service interval.

Just IMHO of course Thumbs Up 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

The results vary massively depending on the stock induction system and the design of the after market system. There are plenty of cars where replacing the stock induction system with a good after market system gains some power.

One of the key requirements for most vehicle manufacturers when designing the induction system is to reduce noise, if you don't care about that you can potentially build a better flowing system, but it depends a lot on how good the stock system is.

And worse of all, the oil filters are coated with can damage the air flow meter.

They are a pain. They always look dirty

100% AGREE!!!!

These mods just change the sound at best but will shatter MPG and wallet at worst. They tend to take in more hot air which is less dense and adds unnecessary heat to the engine. I've dabbled in it and really saw no point. Not worth it at all considering your air box is capable of venting WAY MORE fresh air into the engine than stock.

As an example, the airbox of a 2002 Audi A4 1.8T engine breathes easily with it's stock 170hp setup but you can tune the engine up to 300hp without doing anything to the airbox OR it's filter. and it will perform just as well.
