Anyone had the chrome edge of their side steps ping?

Ok, I think it's probable the age of the fitted side steps, but the drivers side chrome edging has pinged off. Looks like the pins have corroded.
It's also under tension as it's sprung out and slightly backwards.
Only the front edge has pinged off.
Thinking in the 8bterim putting a bolt through to hold it back in place until I can get a cheap replacement.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4

I remember seeing some comments on this forum about this. Think the rivets give up. Some have re-riveted IIRC Robin

Thanks both.
I take it the rivet is the tag shown on the aluminium part? Only seems to be holes in the black/plastic part Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4

I guess so. Sorry don't know for certain. However if you can use a bolt but still keep it looking ok then that would have my vote. Robin

Think I might go for some replacements, as I can imagine the other side will also be going.

So, do I trust eBay or go for somewhere else..... Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4

Just had the same thing on mine, the aluminium rivets corrode with age. I removed the complete sidestep to repair it and drilled out all the rivets. I used some 1/2" self tappers and large head washers to re- fasten the strip, you will need to clamp it in place as it does spring out when the rivets are drilled out. Much easier taking the whole step off to repair as you can turn it upside down to work on it. 2010 RRS, TDV8

heated everything, TV,fridge ...... now with gold calipers and mud flaps !( black mud flaps that is) !!

Lol, you have to love eBay.
New pair of side steps, around £150 for a decent pair.
Couple people selling replacement aluminium strips...£85 EACH!
