Another New SVR ordered 😀

Hi to one and all.

I am new to this site but have been an FFRR owner and forum member for many years.
I was going to order a new FFRR but after seeing and reading about the RRS SVR decided to order one instead, back in February.
I have read much about them on here and have found your comments and knowledge incredibly informative.
I am possibly repeating some of the questions asked but really would appreciate any comments on the following please :-

1. I was told that my Car was in the March build period, but have received no notice of this. I have asked the dealer for a delivery date, but not had a reply yet ☺️ Big Cry
2. Should the car be ‘Run in’ If so for how long ?
3. Should I leave the detailing until the paint and lacquers have hardened. There seems to be differences of opinion
4. Are there still problems with the in car apps? If so what should I look for
5. There seems to be some queries regarding deployable side steps, Is this still so?
6. Anything else you might think I should be aware of

I have to say I am very excited about getting this car and have received the usual comments for FFRR owners but I don’t care. You cannot pass judgement unless you have owned one, and I am looking forward to putting it through its paces 😊

Thanking you all in anticipation

Nod

2 no need to run cars in these days.
3 get it detailed straight away & don't let dealers valeters near it,,your probably better getting it booked into detailers straight from the dealers, that way their shouldn't be any swirls on it.

Personally, I would wait for the paint to harden for a few weeks (this definitely used to be true as I learned to cost, but whether it applies to modern paint I'm not sure), but best to seek the advice of whoever is going to do the detailing. More importantly, don't let the dealer prepare the car.

I have deployable side steps on a three-week old RRS, and they work fine. I'd heard about approval issues with the electrics, problems having front mudflaps, and interference with cameras, but mine were installed without any comment or query from the dealer. One thing to be aware of with regard to them, it's best not to set 'Easy Access' on automatic, as you may damage your side steps if the come out over a kerb that they may then collide with.

You should have a build date by now if it really is March. After build, they say that delivery should be within 8 to 10 days thereafter.

Nowadays tyres need more running in than engines, but taking it steady for a while avoiding excessive revs. is what I do - no need to have a maxium speed limit like the old days (remember "RUNNING IN - PLEASE PASS" signs on the backs of cars?). There may be special considerations for your engine, though, so best wait for a reply from an SVR owner on that one!

its fine Donnydog,,,when they paint them now they go into a oven so the paint is hard,,when I was going to purchase new last year the detailer I was going to use wanted the vehicle straight off the transporter to him.

So is that satin or gloss Borealis Nod? Either way, should be a rare old beast.

I'm in a SDV6 Whistle but have test driven the SVR - both fabulous and hilarious when it roars [go pedal] and crackles [stop pedal] Thumbs Up

Dropped mine off for its second service today and this was parked outside. Lamborghini Orange apparently. They've a Lamborghini Blue one on order too:

Not sure about Orange but that's just me.

Regarding running in, just use it as per normal. High load/low revs isn't the best way to run an engine in, just as low load/high revs isn't. Both methods have their pitfalls so just drive it normally but do please wait for it to fully warm up - both engine and transmission - before applying serious load.

No doubt that comment will get questioned but to qualify; 20 years in engines development (5 of which were spent on the AJ133 VCool before moving to SVO in 2010 and developing/delivering the SVR. Thumbs Up

Paint system is a two coat system of PU base coat followed by PU lacquer.
I would wait until it hardens. There were issues with self adhesive bubble wrap leaving marks.

Hi To you all and thank you for all your suggestions 😃
I spoke with dealer yesterday and he gave me a copy of the build sheet from JLR showing build date of 14th April 🤞 and handover around 19th May. However, according to the guy it may fall in to March build therefore handover April.. Getting quite excited now.
I have agreed with them that it will be as delivered from LR and their detailers will not touch it, hopefully !!!
I spoke with a guy I know who restores old vehicles and is quite a good sprayer. His attitude was airing on the side of waiting. However, he do point out out that it would probably have been sprayed 2/3 weeks prior to me receiving it so the paints they use these days should be ok after that length of time. So I think I might just wait. Does seem crazy that you have to pay extra to get car prepared properly after having it sprayed specially at an exorbitant cost !!!

Regarding the ‘Running In’ I guess I have no control over whoever is doing PDI, I just hope he/she has some pride in his/her job and treats my car with great respect.
I know tolerances and builds are more finite these days and with modern oils and technology everything should be fine, but I think I would rather have a Wild Mustang than a worn out ‘Broken In’ Nag
Anyway, thanks once again. Will keep you posted on progress
