Insurance costs set to rise... Again!

Quote:
Average car insurance premiums could increase by up to £75 a year as a result of a government ruling, industry experts have said.

Quote:
"We anticipate an increase of £50-£75 on an average comprehensive motor insurance policy, with higher increases for younger and older drivers - potentially up to £1,000 for younger drivers, and a rise of up to £300 for older drivers," said Mohammad Khan, UK general insurance leader at accountancy firm PwC.

What with cost of learning to drive, diesel uncertainty, VED changes and now this no wonder young people are not bothering to learn or buy a car Confused

Still at least the roads will be quieter for those wealthy enough to afford it Wink Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I'm approaching bus pass age and this year the quotes for both my RRS and my 90 have dropped ................. not by a lot but the savings should just about buy me a case of beers from a supermarket. I posted in another thread about rising premiums that we are now being hammered because of the cost to replace surround cams, parking aids, road sign recognition systems, lane departure systems, adaptive cruise control systems and adaptive headlights is now so high when a car is even slightly damaged that repair costs very quickly increase if they have to replace hardware and register it in a cars systems. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I'm a driving instructor and can honestly say the majority of instructors have a waiting list, so young ones are still wanting to drive. Thumbs Up

I've pushed my 3 to learn young and it costs a fortune but according to this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35242514 not everyone agrees Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I'm another ten years older than you, and my premiums have never been so low.

I would rather set fire to my face and put it out with a fork than ever get on a bus!

It's not an option for me, we don't have any buses! One of the penalties of rural life I suppose - it goes with no gas, no mains water, not mains sewage, no streetlights, taking your own bin to them, etc, but it doesn't stop 'em charging me Council Tax! Twisted Evil

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that there is an hourly bus service into town at the end of my lane, and its £5.50 return. Which is the same price as hospital parking for two hours, thus saving me the cost of diesel there and back. It was actually better than driving in hereford traffic too.

Of course, in future I will drive to the bus stop, to save the mile walk across the fields, I like the idea of getting off the bus and into my RRS Smile

Well I have no objection to using the bus but as I also live in a rural part they are rare beasts, even though I live on a main route between major cities! I can catch a bus going east every hour between 0700 and noon and then between 3pm an 6pm, coming home is almost the same but if you want to come home from work at 6pm then you are out of luck, next bus is 9pm and is always empty! Going west is not worth the hassle as you have to change buses in the next village but the services have a gap of 90 minutes. Standing at a cold wet bus stop for 90 minutes waiting for the next bus is not appealing! We also miss out on the various utilities that townies take for granted - we don't even have 2g mobile phone signals let alone 3G and no cable, I have "high speed broadband" according to BT but it rarely exceeds 8mb/s and is often a lot less. Would I give up country life to get all the benefits of city life.............. no way. 5 channels of TV is enough with mostly crap being broadcast although we do have excellent DAB radio reception. I have lived in town, but nearly every day I drove out to the countryside..... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
