As it is smaller and lighter than RRS, possibly no V8's will be needed. Evoque has managed to sell well despite no V6 being available.

I'm in a quandary though, V6S/C, PHEV or 3.0 SDv6? Head says SDv6 for the type of motoring I do - mostly 30-60 miles runs with 3 or 4 trips a year to London, or V6S/C for the local back roads and Let the train/ plane take the strain for trips to London, or do I become an ecowarrior like Muddywheels and wait for the PHEV version (and possibly for all the other teething problems to be ironed out in 12-18 months time?) 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim, know how you feel about pensions, mine was robbed by golden brown in the late '90s but the worst is yet to come if the wicked witch of the north gets her way. We will have to sell up and move south again, have been told as much by one of her supporters. We will be living down sarf in a tent as our house up here will be unsellable.

Back on topic, look forwards to seeing the Velar, really liked the F Pace we had on loan for four days, if the RR is on the same platform it will be good - price dependant of course. If I cannot afford a new Velar then I can still sell the RRS and have my trusty 21 year old, 100% reliable TDi300 Defender 90 even if I may not be able to take it into any town or might have to pay huge diesel taxes and it is horrid to drive long distance in, I will still have a set of wheels to use and know that they are increasing in value rather than depreciating at rate of knots!

As an expat Englishman I have lived in Scotland since I was 7 years old (mover there in 1964) and I have had some pleasant nationalists tell me the same thing, that I will have to go back to whence I came............. Donny, I suspect that what I received from the German Govt was a scare tactic to "persuade" us to vote remain, but 2 things - 1) the letter arrived a week after the referendum and 2) it certainly has put the clappers up me and a lot of my colleagues who received the same letter. The issue is the pension for us was non contributory - if we had paid by deduction from salary then I would have something to fight about. Well, I really feel for you. The fact that a lot of people have been shafted over their pensions in recent years is certainly no consolation to you, and this potentially is the worst case I've ever heard. I just hope that the threat isn't carried out and/or they sort some form of reciprocal arrangement out for you. There can't be many things worse than planning for your retirement then having it all snatched away from you by matters outside your control.

I hope the Velar is nice as I have put it on my consider list. I have a 2010 RRS SDV6 SE which I've had from new. I only do about 6K a year. A couple of weeks ago I tried a 65 plate RRS HSE 306 and loved it but I'm not sure about going for another diesel with my low mileage and all the threats, even though Euro 5 and 6 don't seem to be targeted.That brings me to the Velar which apparently can make 295 bhp in 4 cylinder form and probably mid 300s as a straight six. As the are only 2 of us something a bit smaller but still nice to drive would be good.
I found myself in the dealers today and had a look at the new Discovery, it's Huuuge, nicely built though. The rear quarters are really bulky, shame I thought the Disco 3 and 4 were a great design, I had a 3 when they first came out.

IIRC the 295hp motor is a petrol and part of JLR's Plug In Hybrid Elelctric Vehicle plans. Certainly one I would be looking at too. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

That looks pretty tidy to me. More of an estate car look to it than a lofty RRS / FFRR, but stylish. Looks good from the front (as does the D5 which I saw in the metal at the local stealers yesterday). Cabin takes minimal to another level; but thought they'd have given it a gearstick like the RRS.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on upgrading my 2013 HSE SDV6 to an AB SDV8, but I am interested to see what motor they put under the bonnet of the Velar.

Looks nice,like cooperman says it would be better with a gear stick.Whats with the prices,some are saying they will be between the 40k evoque & the 80k sport.The sport start at about 59k or is this just to hike the price up.also talk of a svr so this could be the 80k one.
