EDIT: I posted this then read the other recent posts and see a similar question on USB drives, but for the L494. I'll leave this incase the L320 is different.

We've a few cd's loaded into the hard drive, and often use the music on our phones, but it's not really very good as I find with Android I have to open the app and select the music to play. Also it defaults to the last connected phone so if it was my wife's, then it means music

So I'm after a dedicated USB drive which I'll get one of those tiny ones so it can be left in all the time without risk of being knocked out. Does anyone know the maximum USB drive size that is supported? Also I assume this will still display track listings etc., can anyone confirm?

Can't offer authoritative advice regarding L320, but I have a 64GB thumb drive with all my music in .AAC format (iPod format) and it plays and displays perfectly on my MY15 L494.

64Gb would likely be as big as I'd be needing anyway, and 64Gb prices are low enough now to take a gamble on. If it doesn't work I'm sure the bairns will take advantage of my error

Using a seperate USB hard drive you can get three times the size that you can get on a USB stick for the same price. I have a 1TB (Terrabyte) which was only £97 for a 7200rpm speed drive, or if you pay more you can use solid state HD but must be a minimum of USB2 required.
This will allow you to put everything you most probably own music wise onto it.  John

I never thought of an actual hard drive, I've a few of those in various sizes lying around that I'd only need to get a case for (albeit mechanical types). Yesterday I ordered one of those almost flush type sticks in 64Gb capacity - having too much music choice would just cause more arguments The daft bit is that where I live I'm only 10 minutes max from anywhere so only get to hear 2 songs....

I thought the largest capacity memory stick it can read is 32gb as it can only read the FAT32 format anything larger will be NTFS although I believe software is available to format higher capacity sticks/hard drives to FAT32.
I never managed to get mine to read a portable hard drive, just kept coming up with some error reading can't remember exactly what it said. In the end I just got a couple of 160gb iPod classics and use those through the iPod connector in the cubby box lid, works out over 30k of songs enough for everybody's taste's and the longest journey.

Hi just bought a 2012 RRS, but I can't get it to recognise either USB stick or iPod.
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong ?
