Westminster Council to trial diesel parking charge

Quote:
Westminster is to become the first London borough to levy an additional charge on drivers of diesel cars.

The council plans to charge diesel car owners 50% extra to park in and around Marylebone from 3 April.

The council said its F-zone parking charge would apply to visitors to Marylebone but resident permits would remain unchanged.

Diesel car owners will pay an extra £2.45 per hour for a maximum stay of up to four hours.

The zone - which includes Baker Street, the University of Westminster and Madame Tussauds - will use number plate recognition to identify diesel cars from other types of vehicle.

It comes ahead of City Hall's so-called T-charge, which will see the owners of older, more polluting cars face an extra £10 fee for entering the congestion charge zone later this year.

Who in their right mind takes a car into those parts of London? It's way easier to take the tube. I know that area is always a bottleneck for traffic but it always amazes me how many cars are parked all over the place. Mind you it mustn't deter people from taking their supercars down Park Lane/ Piccadilly when I'm out for my stroll from Marble Arch Tube around the "block" of Park Lane, Piccadilly, Regent Street and back along Oxford Street when I'm in town so that I can admire them all trying to beat each other in the traffic light Grand Prix! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Typical westminster council have no mercy.

I agree Tim, but for shift workers who work on xmas day where no public tranport is in operation they have no choice, esp of they are working nights where in effect you have to drive into london 3 days on the trot. Granted its only for a few days, also the southern rail strikes are not helping either. '06 RRS Supercharged Cairns Blue

Er me? Not often these days to that part just because of circumstance but I'm used to driving all over London & still know my way around.

Besides, PT is terrible

And me, I regularly work in London and the tube is out of the question, unless I recruit half a dozen assistants to help me carry all the equipment needed to do my job.
It looks as though a small price increase to my customers will be on the cards later in the year. Neutral Sad

I park in places like Marylebone but generally at weekends during free parking hours. Hopefully those times stay free even for evil DIE-sels. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
