A wake up call for car salesmen

Quote:
The industry is betting that many consumers want to switch to the convenience of buying online, rather than negotiating in person with a dealer.

This month alone three separate car-makers have launched new sales websites, with others expected to follow.

If motorists take to buying online, the days of slick-talking salesmen and saleswomen could be numbered.

I must say though, I do enjoy the face to face contact with the Salesman and the haggling to get the ' better ' deal but have noticed that nowadays it's getting harder and harder to 'drop' the price of the car itself but then you deal on accessories and various other things which always helps in the final price. Thumbs Up Very Happy

Bring it on! It's always amazed me how hard it is to buy a car, arranging test drives and getting the salesman to deliver on the promised date seems impossible.

Online sales are ok but where do you take it when it goes wrong and all the local dealers have gone out of business. Life's too short to drive boring cars !

Most dealers make most of their profit from new car sales and could not survive on servicing and warranty work, online sales will reduce dealer networks. Life's too short to drive boring cars !

Everything is going that way,,even with tyre,I have folk coming into my spot(not counting Muddywheel) with their own tyres saying they got them cheap off internet,,say £50 each & I tell them it's £20 each for fitting,,so I fit them I then tell them I could have supplied & fitted them for £60🤣🤣,,then I tell them their is no warranty as I didn't supply the tyre.BUT they are happy cos they were cheap on internet.

Showing my age now,but didn't Daiwoo try selling cars through Halfrauds some years ago, with some sort of buyback system operating if the car was less than 12months old?

Seem to remember the Auctions were awash with these nearly new motors being sold for peanuts as neither Daiwoo or Halfrauds had any system for selling 2nd hand motors.

One of the Daiwoo's--Sonata maybe--was a reasonable size and were being snapped up as Taxis.haven't seen one around for years though--probably most went in the Scrappage scheme.Maybe still parked on an airfield somewhere. Very Happy

It always amazes me that this hasn't happened sooner, you can do everything regarding spec'ing your car online, in fact it's much better to do it online as dealers either don't really understand the options or it's some outdated system with no pictures or explanation like online. Then you get exactly what you want and have to email that to a dealer. Surely just have a 'buy it now' button. 2012 RRS SDV6

What? At £100+ an hour for servicing work, plus over-priced parts, I doubt it very much. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
