RRS 2005 STEERING GONE STIFF - HELP REQUIRED Report post
Hoping someone can help, I've seen a few posts online and need guidance to try solve this issue..

I have a RRS 2005 4.4V8 and the steering has decided to go stiff all of a sudden.

Before I consider changing the power steering pump I need to know if there's anything further I can do to ensure that it is the pump.

I came across the following link if another guy who had the same issue and if appeared to be a half shaft that required to be replaced and solved the issue.

I'm in the Birmingham area and any assistance would be appreciated.

I would start by jacking the car up and looking for any tightness in the system before launching into replacement pumps.

I suppose it could be a tight drive shaft joint, or a joint on the steering column. Can you hear any noises from the pump either when under load, or off-load?

Adam..

Had the same symptoms on my car 6 months ago.

Got a can of WD40 and spayed a generous amount onto the linkages in the steering arms.

Problem solved touch wood.

Had a similar issue with my 2010 RRS Supercharged where the steering wheel wasn't returning to centre on its own after turning corners,if you know what I mean just seemed stiff in operation.
I had a warranty luckily and the stealers removed the steering arm and soaked it in oil, they said there was a UV joint which commonly stiffens up. I didn't have any problems after that. If you could give the UV joint a good whooshing of lubrication and see how you go then, could be as simple as that. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the replies.

There's. O real noise but there is a slight noise.

I showed it to a chap who works for Land Rover he said there is a slight noise plus the power steering fluid doesn't smell right either therefore he definitely thinks it's the pump.

He said once the pump is replaced hopefully should repair the fault if not would be the steering rack.

I think it's best if I lubricate all joints first and see if it makes any difference, what do you think?

The steering has got quite stiff now ...

Lubricate everything first, certainly be the cheapest option.
The power steering pump will change in tone if there is resistance in any of the steering joints anyway as it's working harder than normal to overcome the stiffness. Give it a go, you got nothing to lose Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

My money is on the issue being the lower steering column UJ and the powersteering fluid has never been changed since new.
