1.8amp permanent Battery drain problem. MY2012 RRS SDV6 HSE

I appear to have lost the "maps" on the main Sat Nav screen. All other things Radio, DVD play all work fine. It is a HD system not DVD Maps.
Everything else with a Sat Nav works, you still get verbal directions, can set routes, select screen sizes and dual screen and do all the normal things,
It's Just when you select route or not, touch return to map nothing happens, you go to what should be the map and all black in background, except all the normal things you normally get on map screen
Such as TMC box, Screen split options, Signal Strength of phone, etc but no maps displayed, you also don't get the junctions displayed coming up and distance on the main Speedo screen in the middle, when a route is input.
.
Anybody had this or any ideas?
It did have a flat battery and I still get the flash of screen flat battery warning, engine will turn off etc, but doesn't.
It is booked in for service and faults looked at and fixed hopefully but not before mid January, Crying or Very sad but could really do with seeing maps as I require them for Work etc.

Incidentally the battery running flat if not left on trickle charge overnight, is because there is a 1.8 amp drain all the time with everything switched off. Battery has been checked and is Good, no alternator fault and no faults at all registered on IID BT Tool. Big Cry John

For the battery drain could it be a loose earthing strap? I remember that there was a spell of this happening with Freelander2 and it was traced to a loose earth strap bolt between the gearbox and chassis once the bolt was tightened the problem disappeared.. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks Tim, will get Brother to check over the weekend, due to my disability I could get down there but not back up afterwards. Rolling with laughter

My only other thought re drain on battery, was to check every fuse, remove and recheck, but that is not a quick solution and would take the best part of a day. Rolling Eyes

Anyone with any other ideas or recognise these faults? Thanks. John

Having to put battery on charge each night due to the the drain (see opening post) for three weeks now, (booked in early a January, evidently full).
Would this damage the battery does anyone know?
I Wouldn't think so, as alternator does this all the time, max output of my charger is 28amps which reduces as is charged,
also have a Trickle charge setting and a boost start of 750 amps, quite low for a 3 litre diesel, not much use, when cranking is 850 amps. Embarassed John

Call LR Assistance, they can escalate a repair at the main dealers, your will get a loan car whilst it is in, this forces them to repair ASAP. Thumbs Up

I did call them out when I couldn't even gain access as Battery was flat, and nothing worked. AA responded on behalf of LR Assistance, and after sometime managed to free the cover over emergency lock to gain access. (I couldn't remove it, seemed completely stuck) He put his jump leads on, from rear connection on van, plus used a 900amp battery booster to get it to turn over and start. He checked the battery which read as OK (and have had it checked independently by a local Battery distributer), the alternator output was checked and that is fine, there is no fault codes on his code reader, when everything is turned off, there is a permanent drain on the battery of 1.8-2.8 amps continuously, so he said to take it for a twenty minute run and leave on charge overnight every night until I can get it serviced. That takes sometime removing cover etc and reverse in the morning.
I asked could he take it to the LR dealership, but he refused saying his job is to get car running, as per their contract with LR.
Both my own dealership, Hatfields, North Yorkshire and another LR service centre couldn't help till January next year, as I required a loan vehicle and they are booked up. I still have a 11 month LR Warranty on car remaining so not happy. Hatfields state Battery not covered by LR warranty and it is almost four years old now.

I'm not sure how I can get the AA person to escalate matters, as suggested above, unless I park it in a street overnight and recall them out, but how do I get them to be able to get it sorted any quicker if they (dealership) are fully booked?

Thanks for any advice or help on getting this looked at quicker, the battery will be knackered after pumping in 25 amps each night for several weeks and still putting in around 10-12amps in the morning. You cannot secure the car properly either with bonnet open! Banging Head

Other than taking each fuse out individually and read drain, I can't think of anything, but with over 99 fuses in car that will take forever. Big Cry John

I would be seriously unhappy with how you have been treated so far regarding this Johnski. So their job is to get it running, great then get it running but if you don't have a charger too use then they will soon get fed up with visiting to start you every day or even twice a day! Whistle if there is a permanent drain as you say and LR assist have proven this then the car is not fit for purpose and needs to be repaired under warranty. Get on the phone to LR customer services and also LR assist, state the reasons why you want the vehicle taken to the dealership. You could even take the vehicle to the dealer and LR assist must provide a loan car until your vehicle issue is rectified.

I'm disgusted that they expect someone to constantly plug a car in overnight and it could leave you stranded anywhere.

Hope you get it sorted Thumbs Up 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black

Call it in again but this time insist on a LR Tech only, they are far more responsive and will escalate it for you, accept nothing less the car isn't safe to use.. Thumbs Up

Call LR Assist again as the boys have said. Be polite but firm. You've "paid" for that warranty as part of the deal Thumbs Up Visitor from fullfatrr.com

Hello johnski
If you are still having the discharge issue, just put a multimeter in line with the fuses and see which is drawing the amps. May give you an idea of which circuit is draining the power.

UPDATE

Well car was taken into LR Hatfields at Pickering (after LR assist spoke to them er....repeatedly, with the battery problem, and left with them for a couple of days to try and sort it out as it's such a pain now. Was given a loan car. Smile
Eventually had a phone call, as they wanted to keep it for a further day/night for testing.

Went to pick it up on fourth day, car was sitting outside all clean and shining, went into Office and they said they had spent many hours of checking out my car, explained what they had checked, couldn't find any drain like the LR Assist techs had. but wouldn't charge for all the hours they spent on it, just a few hours at 110 plus VAT Censored the reason for discount was because they cannot find a fault with car!! LR Warranty only covers when faults are found and rectified.
I went to car and yes it started, parked up overnight in Cayton Bay, and in morning, the car did start up, but the Warning battery low and engine will shut off in three minutes etc etc. sign appeared. Phoned garage, they hadn't had anyone starting the car and watching main TV/Map screen, so couldn't comment on warning message, to ignore for now, and if still happening at service will look at that fault as car had started. Big Cry

Anyway I drove to North Wales that day, a very good charge for the battery, even though the test printouts showed it was fine. Next day went to car and couldn't get response from the Fob to open doors, opened passenger door using emergency Key gained access, but car was as dead as my parents. Big Cry Very Censored of called out LR assist, who got it started for me, and put on charge after a run of 20 miles. Can't afford several hundred pounds to take it back to LR, so back to charging each night, when then it starts fine, but still comes up with that battery warning even though shows charged and switched to trickle charge.

At a complete loss now, what to do? any ideas other than selling the bloody thing?
Been in touch with Customer Services but they were bleeding useless, but they will notify Hatfields of my continued problems. Whoopee. John

I know you're still under warranty but would it be worth your peace of mind to go to an indi and get them to repair the fault ?

Or alternatively see if you can trace the source of the drain (pull fuses etc.) ?

I did the same with mine, I had a couple of issues and when I went back to the seller I was given the run around that much that in the end I was going to end up driving the damn thing through their front window. So I bit the bullet and walked away, granted it cost me money but it was a lot less stressful.

Personally, I would take it to a competent auto electrician to get it fixed.

I think I'm now going to take it to a Indi LR specialist and Auto electricians, and let them sort it.
Couldn't afford another getting on for 300.00 bill for nothing, lost faith now in my LR dealers after many years, I do know intermittent type faults can be a nuisance, but this was getting silly, they hadn't even checked settings, as I found a error in there, (not responsible for fault), but must have been there for some time, FBH now actually working properly. Embarassed
Thanks for all the advice everyone's given, and will hopefully put up the final post with problem when sorted. Thanks again for all the advice. John
