help needed locating my private plate - R4 LJW

hi. weird request. Sold my RRS TDV8 earlier in the year. I transferred my plate at the same time as the DVLA told me I could do this, however I sent the V5C to the address on this form and the V317 to the address on that form. this was wrong (now they tell me) so my plate was effectively sold with the car.

Contacted the new owner who has sold the car on and doesn't have contact details and DVLA won't help

Plate isn't worth a lot but was a present so would like to get it back so please help if you can.

RRS TDV8 - Grey 2007 and plate is R4 LJW.

Please let me know if you own the vehicle this is on or know where it is. I am will to pay

Thanks Lee

You can write to the DVLA requesting details of ownership, same as private parking companies would to obtain someones details to ticket them. As long as you have a valid reason they should send it. I can't see your reason is not valid, so maybe the numpty you got on end of phone wasn't too helpful, if you rang. I would look up and send them a letter, it's bound to get you further.

Hope this helps.

I used an app and it's not assigned to a car at the moment.

Therefore look on the number plate sale sites.

Alternatively maybe your form did work, and somehow its lost. Maybe you can claim it back somehow?

thanks for the reply's. DVLA are adamant that the plate now belongs to someone else so won't even help. I'll try a letter

Don't send a letter.
You need to use form V888 and pay a fee.

Lee, that form supplies information about a vehicle but not the number plate. Can you remember the original plate of your car before you put your personal Reg on?? The number plate is probably on retention because there is no record of it being assigned to a vehicle at the moment. Might be best going down the route of finding out who now owns your old car because no doubt they have put the original plate back on and your personalised plate on retention. ( that is if whoever had your car off you first is not telling porkies and they might have it on retention). Let us know how you get on Thumbs Up
