New to all things RR

Hi All from a newby.
I'm in the process of buying my first ever RR or RRS even and I need a little advice. The car is really a second car for use in the winter (I live in the Perak District) and want to save my day to day euro box which is crap in the wet never mind anything resembling snow and ice.
Im looking to buy something about 5 years old which puts me bang in the middle of the upgrade. THE QUESTION is do I buy the last TDV6 or spend several grand extra on the later SDV6. Is the SDV6 that much better?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Burge Very Happy

Welcome. Thumbs Up

Do you mean pre- or post-facelift TDV6 (2.7 or 3.0)? Either way, it's a common question with no one-size-fits-all answer. If you mean the latter, then it's not so much the SDV6 itself that's better as the 8-speed box. If we're talking pre- vs post-facelift, then the facelift certainly brings significant improvements.

Either way, each upgrade is certainly worth going for if you can, but, a good earlier model is always better than a bad later model, so the only advice possible is to ensure what you buy is a good example of whichever it should be. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thanks LfW

The cars im looking at are good examples. :-

1st and probably current favourite is a RRS May 12 HSE SDV6 with 57k at £27k has 8sp box

The 2nd is a RRS Sept 09 HST TDV8 50k on the clock and at £21k

The 3rd is very nice Overfinch Sept 09 TDV8 with 60k on the clock at £22.5

I have heard of a 4th which I may look at tomorrow which is an Autobiography Dec 11 SDV6 56k on the clock and at £28k.

1st three all have full dealer service history

So which looks like best value?

Thanks

Burge

Burge - before you go spending money on a second car, you DO know that a set of winter or even all season tyres will transform your euro-box?

I was astonished at the transformation of my old Jag XF - about as much use as a chocolate teapot on snow and ice until I fitted winter tyres, then I could have moonlighted in it as a snow plough. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

You planning of ever taking it off road? There's some great places in the Peak District.
For that reason I'd pick the first one.
Autobiography's look nice, but you wouldn't want to take it off road.

Thanks for the advice chaps.
Wilf, the euro box is a 10 year old 911, 4s. I just want to keep it away from the salt and protect it from the likely bump, even with winter tyres. Interested in your comment about them though, I've never used them myself but a work colleague melted a brand new set by tramping down an autobahn for a few hundred miles and ruined them.

Thanks for the view on the Autob, Hemo. I haven't seen that one yet, 1st is fave at the moment.

Any comments re tdv vs sdv and the money difference.?

I also concur (the first one) and have a similar vehicle myself, the advantages aren't just the higher powered BHP of the SDV6 but also the extras fitted like LED lights, corner lights, camera, 8 speed box which improves mpg and the lightweight one piece rear door electric controlled, updated audio etc, I don't think you would go wrong with one of these.
Full service history is a must in my books, and if from a LR dealer the warranty is excellent. Thumbs Up John
